Product Description

Rugby is a sport that embraces players of every shape, size and fitness level. The success a player achieves, no matter what position he plays, will depend on his physical abilities. This book explains how those abilities, and therefore playing performance, can be improved. This book: discusses the mechanics of the human body, the classification of physical abilities and what is needed to succeed; examines the training methodology associated with aerobic, endurance, sprint, agility, plyometric, resistance, flexibility and core training; provides detailed explanations of a wide range of exercises; considers testing, the principles involved in designing training programmes and presents and easy-to-use, ten-step model that allows a player to formulate his own twelve-month training programme.

Customer Reviews

A great book! 5
I am Ben Wilson, the author of this book. Apologises to any one reading the other reviews by my mates messing around. But that is rugby players for you.

My book received 4 out 5 stars by Rugby World Magazine in August 2006 (see below) and won book of the month by East Terrace rugby website when it was released.

Rugby World magazine review said:

"He's a conditioning specialist, personal trainer, ecological lifestyle consultant and a 'keen' public speaker. But is Ben Wilson's any good? Well, it's certainly thorough. The London based Wilson starts with the basics - the mechanics of the body - and provides plenty of theory before getting on to the sections most likely to interest readers: training exercises and how to design your own programme. Each exercise (the double-leg zigzag hop sounds tricky) is illustrated and details the technique needed as well as common mistakes. How many of you recognise this one: When going on a run, don't go too slowly for most of the run and then sprint at the end. Wilson believes an increased focus on increased personal fitness among aspiring rugby players has not been accompanied by the necessary knowledge on how to do it. There are no excuses now."

I know I am biased by my book is the most comprehensive and applicable rugby fitness book available for non professional players. If your goal is to get results long term and want to understand the quickest and most effective way to get results then this book is for you. For those not ready to buy it check out my free newsletter on my Rugby Fitness Training website.

i'm a pro athlete and have been for nearly 10 years. i had fallen into the trap of doing the same exercises over and over again. rugby fitness has opened my eyes to that and has led me to re-think my pre-season regime. here's to improvements at all levels. raise a glass to ben wilson. superb.

G.J. Mason is Ben Wilsons best friend3
Mason is Wilsons best friend and as a 21st prop hardly an athlete. Be ashamed Gareth be very ashamed. Writing bogus reviews to big up your pal and seducing innocents into spending their hard earned cash, shame, shame.
