Best Beginners' Guide Currently Available5
The only drawback I found with Steinberg's Cubase SX was the manual. If, like me you were struggling to get to grips with probably the most powerful music proccesor on the face of the planet, then Mark Wherry's book Cubase SX The Absolute Begginers Guide is an absolute must.

It's simplistic aproach to the basics of using Cubase SX makes the Steinberg supplied manual superflues, at least for the beginner. It is a straight forward but concise instruction manual that covers in easy steps from setting up the computer and installing the software, to getting to grips with the basics of Midi and Audio recording, before finaly moving onto mixing, finalising your composition and finaly burning your finished recording to disc.

This book also comes with some additional software: a practice song to be loaded into Cubase and is reffered to in the book, a number of VST effects which are in addition to what is supplied within Cubase and, finaly, if you do not yet own Cubase, a sample copy of that very software to allow you to get to know it.

Well what are you waiting for!

Very good, but only for certain people...4
I must admit I found this book absolutely useless! Having got Cubase SX, knowing about MIDI and music tech, I did the tutorials in the Cubase Getting Started guide, then got this book. To be honest there is not a lot in this book that you would not learn from the Getting Started tutorials. HOWEVER, you will find this book excellent if:

1. You don't own Cubase and want to evaluate it with a really user friendly tutorial book (the book has a demo version on CD too)

2. You are not at all familiar with music tech and have bought Cubase SX, but find the Getting Started tutorials too advanced

So I would rate this book 4 stars in this context. If you don't fall into either of these categories though, I would just do the Getting Started tutorials and then go for a more advanced book than this.

This book is B-I-N-G-O!!!5
This book is everything you need to getting cracking in Cubase SX. I knew nothing (!!!!) about Cubase when I started, and now I'm on my 4th album and working with Elvis, U2, and Alanis Morrisette. Not really, but you get the idea. It's all you need to get going.
