Customer Reviews

What happened to John Seggern?2
I was a professional music maker up to 1996 and worked in a well thought of electronic group and then wrote TV and film music. I used C-Lab on an Atari after graduating from Roland MC4, Microcomposer sequencers etc and the Atari meant midi timing was superb. At that time neither Apple or PC were close. However after ten years or so out of the industry I now want to get back to making music ands was recommended the Ableton 6 programme which I bought. I also bought this book but strangely the author was different. My version was writen by John von Steggern and is quite frankly bloody awful! I specifically want to make music quickly and need a book that will take me through the essence of Live and I will then find out about the rest of the features as and when I need them. This book takes you through the whole lot, tediously telling you every single function and I cannot find a simple walk through or anything to stop me falling asleep. If you are a visual learner and a 'doer' like me then this book will not suit you!

not very "power"2
If you've no clue about sequencing or production software in general and you're looking at live this is a good starting point.
If you're regularly using another sequencer and considering Live then download the manual, you'll find it quicker and more rewarding.
This book is reasonably comprehensive for a beginner, but "power" it most certainly isn't.

Yeps, this is a top manual5
I have to wonder about our pop-star mate below. He doesn't seem to have much of an attention span. This book is magic. After the intro to midi - which is a good one - you'll be learning by the page.

Brilliant book. Don't delay.
