Customer Reviews

Useful but not overly inspiring3
For the price I would say that if you are new this photgraphy malarky then this book would make a good addition to another, more detailed guide. It does a decent job but lacks real depth, the photographs it contains are small and without description of the setup for the shot.

A small bargain book FULL of great advice5
The first thing I have to say about this book is the price. £9.99 (or cheaper if like me you've bought it from amazon)and what great value. It's a small-sized book but contains over 200 pages packed of what comes across as serious professional advice. If you've just bought your first DSLR then this book should be read. It's the little things that make this book stand out such as by starting with the differences between SLR's and normal compact digital cameras, how to hold your camera and even how to breathe when taking pictures! (something I never really thought of before but something which makes perfect sense). There's an extremely detailed section on lenses (something which I'm sure I'll go back to as a beginner), fully explained sections on lighting and accessories but the most interesting is the chapters on techniques for shooting different subjects and locations. The author Darrell Tan gives sound advice on weddings, sports photography, still life, night scenes and loads more. Being a small book none of the photos are huge but they all seem to fit into the book's funky format. All in all, a nice little purchase which has given me loads of advice.
