Average customer review:Product Description
This is a reader-friendly guide to repairing computers, running either Microsoft Windows 95,98, Me, 2000 and XP, through easy to understand language, detailed diagrams and video tutorials (on the CD). The book emphasizes that a deep understanding of how a computer works is not necessary to diagnose and repair computer problems, and concentrates on practical, "hands-on" solutions that can be implemented right away. Concentrating largely on installing and troubleshooting hardware, the book also provides solutions to common operating system-related problems. In addition, thorough explanations on how to select quality replacement and expansion components without paying top dollar are also provided, helping users get the most out of their newly repaired PC. Regardless of experience, this should be a useful guide for anyone who wants to repair their computer or is considering a career in the computer repair business.

Customer Reviews
A bit out of date
My 5 year old PC recently broke down. After ordering a new one I decided to attempt to repair the faulty one and ordered this book as a first step. I was disappointed to find that it was last updated in 2004! consequently, the disk drive and memory type in my PC (SATA and DIMMs) were not covered. Even if it had been more recent I think it wouldn't have given me the information I want as it's pitched at a very general level.
If you are starting from a very basic level eg you need to be told what a motherboard is, then this book would be a very good starting point. It's very easy to understand and gives sound advice.
