Editorial Reviews
Review
'An invaluable guide...after reading this book, you will never again find yourself using a comma instead of a semi-colon.' London Evening Standard 'I realised for the first time that grammar actually is fascinating...you are given the facts in plain English - no waffle, no padding, just the details you really need...a fascinating and readable book.' Alison Chisholm, BBC Radio 'this grammar book is far from being boring...wisely keeps grammatical jargon to a minimum.' Writing Magazine
This book should be a staple for adults, students, and anyone who has ever been baffled by when to use a comma-and a serial comma. It contains basic chapters on the parts of speech, gradually building up to the finer points of writing, sentence structure, punctuation, creating paragraphs, and following accepted publishing styles. Marion Field takes you through the basics of English grammar in a clear and concise way and there is something here for everyone including those having difficulties with English grammar or those who simply wants to correct the grammar that they use every day. This book would also be useful for students who are learning a foreign language and are having difficulties in relating the grammar of the new language to that of their own. The book itself has a well-designed layout, with lots of examples of what to do and what not to do, including some self-test questions. Passages (both serious and comic) from well-known past and contemporary writers to illustrate points is a nice touch. (Kirkus UK)
