THE FS3 IS AN EXCELLENT LITTLE SNAPPER!
Having used a Canon Powershot A70 (3.2 megapixels - and a great little camera) for the last five years, I was apprehensive as to whether the Panasonic DMC-FS3 would come up with the goods.
I have been pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, it doesn't have the manual controls of the Powershot A70, but it is far more compact and pocketable that the Canon ever was. The Image Stabilisation is great and allows you to get sharp shots with slow shutter speeds indoors, without flash. "Intelligent Auto" does everything for you, if that's what you want. Sharpness and colour rendition are as good as the Canon and, although its a "point and shoot", there are lots of scene modes and ISO adjustments etc to play around with. You can also choose "burst mode" and, if you are into HDR photos, there is a setting for 3 bracketed exposures that will allow you to dabble in HDR (provided you have the software to process them).
Video mode is very clear and sharp and not that far removed from the quality of my 4 year old JVC mini-DVD Camcorder. It also offers the option of 16:9 widescreen mode movies. Normal photos can also be captured in widescreen mode.
Check out the reviews on this camera and you will find that its capability in low light (and high ISO settings) out-performs the Canon competition.
Excellent piece of kit!!!
Bought this as a handbag camera - have the Nikon D60 for serious stuff ( which is also excellent incidentally!!)
Great little camera, superb shots, fantastic price and is a WHICH camera of the year - so can't be bad!!
HIgh quality camera
We've had a Fuji and Olympus Digital camera over the last few years, but both have proved to be unreliable and the fuji picture quality wasn't always what it could be. So far this Panasonic beats them both. Easy to set up and use, and excellent quality pictures from the start. Easy to use presets make it a joy to use. The camera is small enough to put in a pocket (we also have the larger and higher spec TZ3, but it's not a pocket camera).
