Product Description

The delta-wing design of the subsonic bomber Avro Vulcan was years ahead of its time in terms of design when the Ministry accepted the proposal in 1947. The first prototype flew on 18 May 1951 and it went on to serve in the RAF from 1952 to 1984. During this time, it carried Britain's first nuclear weapon, the gravity bomb, and played an important part of the deterrence policy in the Cold War. This book provides a complete illustrated history of the Avro Vulcan, covering the period from 1947 to 1984, when it was finally withdrawn due to mounting costs. The history includes chapters on trials and development, taking flight, the Vulcan B.2 and Black Buck attacks in the Falklands War. This account will appeal to the many Avro Vulcan enthusiasts in the UK, and to anyone interested in Britain's aviation history.

The good old Vulcan lives again. This is more of a photographic book however it does contain some useful text. Anyone who ever had anything to do with V bombers will consider this a good, nice priced, edition. This included some colour. Lets hope we see her in the skies soon.
