A guide book with a difference ... The first hand accounts of holidaying in Greece are all written by self-confessed Grecophiles ....

From the Publisher
The Greek-o-File Volume I is a compendium of articles and anecdotes of varying length illustrated with photographs, maps & sketches.

Greek-o-File first launched as a quarterly subscriber magazine late in 1998. This first book continues with a bumper collection, including many contributions from subscribers, now published in handy paperback format.

New volumes will be compiled annually, starting with articles in hand from readers at the start of each year and from personal research. If you would like to send a contribution for consideration, check out what has been published before to understand the style and length of acceptable articles and to ensure you are not revisiting old ground, email to mail@greekofile.co.uk. As an independent not-for-profit business Greek-o-File regret they are unable to pay for contributions other than by sending a free copy of the book to contributors.

From the Author
The Greek-o-File is not for those who travel to Greece looking for everything English with sunshine or noisy touristy places with rows of sunbeds that could be anywhere in the world. It is for those who have been captivated by the differences of Greece – the friendly welcome of the locals, the quiet unspoilt villages and smaller resorts, the beauty of coast and countryside and the rich past which seems evident all around.

Whether you have a favourite place you keep returning to, or you enjoy exploring to find new parts, or you want to know what it is about Greece that makes others keep returning, The Greek-o-File will put you in the picture.

In the illustrated pages of The Greek-o-File you will find articles to inform and entertain you, to give you ideas for places to visit, to help you appreciate the background and lives of the Greek people, to relive your holiday memories through the anecdotes of others, or to help you plan a future in Greece.

We hope you decide to share the Greek-o-File experience.

More than a travel guide5
Greek-o-File is unique. It's more than a travel guide, it's a total Greek experience. I can't think of any other publication that combines so many aspects of Greece between its covers. You only have to read the piece titled Disaster & Dichotomy, in the Greek Life section of this book, to realise how deeply committed both Sylvia & Terry Cook are to all thing Greek. In short this is a book which I know I will pick up time and time again

More of the same, but that's no bad thing!4
For those of us who devoured Volume 1 it was inevitable we would want Volume 2. We needed to know how Sylvia & Terry would progress, or even if, they would progress, with the rebuilding of their Greek island home. Within the covers of Volume 2 we also found recipes to bring Greece to our dining table, Kephalonian meat pie (with meat!) sounds as though it will be delightful. There are wine reviews. There are tales of the Greek and English Social Security systems and poetry and more. And for the gardeners amongst us some ideas on how to turn our humble patio and veg plot into something more Mediterranean. All this and Myths and legends too....An Excellent work which conveys the love of Greece from both the authors and all their contributors

Greek-o-File Heaven !!5
The newsletter-style of anecdote and subtle observation works brilliantly here in book form.
You feel close to, and interested in, the different people who travel around this magnificent country and their various escapades. It also conveys the wonderful friendliness of the Greek people and their,(sometimes),gloriously frustrating ways!
The author also conveys a natural warmth and affinity for, and with, the reader. The light writing style easily allows for dipping in & out, each piece being concise yet enlightening. A printed meze perhaps??!
Undoubtedly, my favourite Greek book, anyone who yearns to learn about some of the quieter areas of Greece will enjoy this - highly reccommended.
