‘A storyteller in the class of Alexandre Dumas’

Synopsis
They had only one thing in common ...William Lowell Kane and Abel Rosnovski, one of the son of a Boston millionaire, the other a penniless Polish immigrant - two men born on the same day on opposite sides of the world, their paths destined to cross in the ruthless struggle to build a fortune. The marvellous story, spanning sixty years, of two powerful men linked by an all-consuming hatred, brought together by fate to save ...and finally destroy ...each other. 'Archer has a gift for plot that can only be described as genius' - "Daily Telegraph". 'Probably the greatest storyteller of our age' - "Mail on Sunday."

Customer Reviews

Reasonably OK pot-boiler3
I read Kane and Abel when I was a teenager shortly after I'd devoured the TV mini-series. I loved the TV programme and I loved the book back then.

I figured I'd have the same experience twenty-odd years later. For the most part I did enjoy it. But there are moments when the seemingly never-ending series of appalling coiincidences combined with some quite painful sex scenes described in excruciating detail left me wanting to throw the book across the room.

Having imparted such vile observations, I still recommend it. It's perfect for a quick fix of "I've finished reading a book" and the inevitable feeling of smug self-satisfaction which results. Just don't expect too much from it.

Unputdownable read!5
I'm a huge fan of Jeffrey Archer and have read this book in the past and love it. Bought it from Amazon recently and could not put it down. You just have to keep reading it to find out what happens next. It covers all the emotions, you laugh, you smile, you cry and you get cross, everything you want from a first class read.

Part of me hates to admit it but this is a fantastic story, read it many years ago and still remember it. When others describe something as a 'cracking read' I think this is what they mean. Good for someone who doesn't read a lot even though it's lengthy, the story is so well told and always interesting.
