Synopsis
The TARDIS starts decaying in mid-flight, crash-landing on Earth. When the Doctor and his companion, Ace, are almost killed by a herd of dinosaurs, he feels certain they have arrived in the Jurassic Era. But then they find a woman being hunted, the Doctor suspects that something is very wrong.

The thrill of the chase...3
Jim Mortimer had a good idea: write a 'Classic Doctor Who' story but bring it up to date and make it relevant for older teenagers and adults. Bloodheat certainly has some strong elements: Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart makes an always welcome return, Liz Shaw and Jo Grant - The Third Doctor's first two companions - feature, as do The Silurians and The Sea-Devils; two of the Doctor's more intriguing and underused adversaries.
The problem lies with the author's attempts to meld these classic elements with the New Adventures' own ingredients. You have Benny and Ace doing their usual (Ace blows things up whilst Benny ponders life, the universe and everything). The Brigadier is a very different man from previous encounters whilst Jo has been scared witless and Liz disappears into the background, so irrelevant and uninteresting is her character in this form. The 'villains' are good value and the writer continues events from the last time The Doctor encountered the Silurian race - however this fails to compensate for a meandering storyline and a rehash of the last time The Doctor appeared to be manipulating characters and events for his own ends...Oh wasn't that the last New Adventures novel?
