not a page turner
how daft can one be ?? well i feel i must put mu hand up. i bought this book when i had nothing else in mind based purely on the recommnedation of the previous review.......how wrong can he be?

- this aint a page turner.its predictable!!! tell me why cant in any of these books the baddie win???

- metaphors are appaling...sean young will never win a literary award ( like my self)

- spelling mistakes abound

by the end i just didnt care.BUT.....having said all that its easy to read and follow but like me you might think the book and story had so much potential that was never made use of.
if your in doubt what to read next and like thrillers then this will probably suit you.dont expect a harris,follet or forsythe- that would be an effort!!.

A Brilliant Thriller
Out of all of the history based thrillers out there I've never read one based on this subject matter at this point in history (ancient Israel during the time of Jesus). Sure there are plenty of novels about Jesus, but the other events of the time are often lost in the shadow of the Jesus story.

This thriller (and is it thrilling!) features a zealot who is waging a bloody campaign against the Roman empire with the goal of freeing Israel from Roman occupation. While I've heard of the zealots (I believe Peter, the disciple, had been one)I really knew nothing about their actual goals and actions. What I have discovered in Violent Sands is that it was a dangerous time for the zealots and they fought hard against the impossibley large Roman empire. This is a compelling thriller with very high stakes.

Add to that a mystery featuring the copper scroll (an ancient document discovered not too long ago along side the Dead Sea Scrolls) a romance in danger of a violent ending and a secret society of zealots, and you've got the best historical thriller, and indeed one of the best thrillers in general, that I've ever read. No joke. No exaggeration .

This book will keep you turning pages long into the night and even when you've stopped reading it will keep you awake, dreaming about what's to come next. I highly recomend Violent Sands to anyone who enjoys a good yarn and especially to those who like well thought out, well researched and infintely compelling thrillers.
