Synopsis
On a lonely stretch of Welsh coastline, a fisherman is killed by a hideous creature from beneath the waves. When the Doctor and Rose arrive, they discover a village where the children are plagued by nightmares, and the nights are ruled by monsters. The villagers suspect that ancient industrialist Nathanial Morton is to blame, but the Doctor has suspicions of his own. Who are the ancient figures that sleep in the old priory? What are the monsters that prowl the woods after sunset? What is the light that glows in the disused lighthouse on Black Island? As the children's nightmares get worse, The Doctor and Rose discover an alien plot to resurrect an ancient evil...This work features the Doctor and Rose as played by David Tennant and Billie Piper in the hit series from BBC Television. It is an abridged reading, written by Mike Tucker, and read by Anthony Head. It includes a fascinating 'behind the scenes' discussion between author and reader.

About the Author
Mike Tucker is a visual effects designer, who, after 20 years at the BBC, now runs his own company – The Model Unit - out of Ealing Studios. He has worked as an effects assistant on the original series of ‘Dr Who’ and has been the Miniature Effects Supervisor on the first two seasons of the new series, overseeing the team responsible for (amongst other things) the destruction of Big Ben, the Daleks (and their Emperor) and K-9. His previous books for the BBC have mostly been written with long time colleague Robert Perry and have all revolved around the characters of the seventh Doctor and Ace.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant, the best of the tenth doctor books so far that ive read....5
The prologue of this book is scary as flaming hell. A real creepy setting and really good action. immediately gets you hooked into a book of nightmares and young children and ancient evil. This book is thoroughly rivetting. A good plot and many scary moments written by a Doctor Who pro. Mike Tucker is an excellent writer with dark stories and this one is in the same league as the macabre and dark Matrix, a brilliant read! this should be made into a tv episode. it really actually does happen to be that good.!!!!!

Young people's education is shocking!2
So I began listening to the suave and silky tones of the wonderful Anthony Head. I liked the descriptions and the scene-setting of the novel but the whole effect was somewhat spoiled by my realisation of two things:

1). This is simply an attempt to rekindle the excitement of the spooky lighthouse story done so well with 4th Dr story 'The Horror Of Fang Rock'.

2). This is another book that just lifts an old books ideas wholesale in order to pass them off as its own. Hello H.G. Wells 'The Island Of Doctor Moreau'! It's a straight lift with the only slight difference being that the monsters come from the childrens Id rather than being created by a mad scientist!

If people don't know their novel history are we to be left with the same old stories being endlessly retold and recycled? What a disappointment. Nice reading though, which is what adds a star.

Delightful Read5
I no I have given all the doctor who books i have reviemed 5stars, ut there is one detail you need to consider. Many of the other books (by different authors) were BRILLIANT but if i was 9 (wich i'm not i am 11) i would find them very hard to get through. but with this book, it is easy to get through! I wud give this book 11/10 for it's wonderful descriptions and perfect plot!
P.S. if you r a yob u wont agree on my bit about the wonderful descriptions
