Caithness Glass is famous for its quality art glass pieces, especially the glass paperweights. 3
This book is, at best, a reasonable catalogue mainly dedicated to the paperweight side of Caithness Glass (CG), an exclusive world-famous company.

This second edition supersedes the 1999 version, updating all the information up until the Caithness site closed in April 2004 - a 40 year span, shocking the `The Wickers', as another business vacated their town.
Now, the only remaining factory is the Perth one, which still manufacturers a large quantity of glass items, but Caithness folk refuse to accept the produce as CG, for obvious reasons, even if the US/Canadian market doesn't worry how far from Caithness, Perth actually is!!!!!!!

Softback - 230x180mm - 399 pages covering 2800 individually illustrated items, with all the relevant information, including:-

The name
The designer
The date of issue
The issue price
The total number released
Status
Series/Variation/Colour

32 pages of colour photography mentioning the different segments of paperweight releases.
Further information on collecting Caithness Paperweights, classic Whitefriars Weights, Caithness Collection Commissioned & Exclusive Weights plus limited editions along with the 2004 market value prices for sterling, USA and Canada. Author is a well respected designer of CG.

A Comprehensive Guide4

This is the bible for all those who collect or are interested in Caithness paperweights. Caithness has been producing paperweights since the 1960's and is still going strong today. This is the second edition of the book that was first published in 1999. Caithness have produced a large number of weights some better than others but the phrase beauty is in the eye of the beholder was never more true than when referring to paperweights and what one collector likes another may dismiss out of hand.

The book is very comprehensive but only takes us up to 2004, so to find later issue paperweights, another source will have to be used. The book is extremely well laid out and there are a multitude of colored photographs that will set the collector drooling.

Each listing gives the name of the paperweight, designer, date of issue, issue prices, edition size, and status. It also gives tips on building a collection, step-by-step photographs showing the paperweight creation processes, and information sources on both Caithness Glass paperweights and paperweights in general A comprehensive index completes this unique work. It also gives current market values, at the date the book was published but I am always wary of these prices as anything, not just paperweights is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it.

All in all a must have for the Caithness collector and a nice addition for anyone interested in paperweights in general.

Art in Glass5
For anyone who collects Paperweights from Caithness Glass or Whitefriars Glass this book is simply essential. It illustrates the beauty of Art in Glass. For the collector, it clearly lists, name of the paperweight, designer, date of issue, issue prices, edition size, status and gives current market values. Highly recommended.
