Synopsis
The second of two spinoffs launched by the hugely popular television series CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, CSI: NEW YORK distinguishes itself with an even darker, grittier tone than either of its predecessors by grounding the action in the gloomy aftermath of post-9/11 New York. The always brilliant Gary Sinise anchors the series as sternly professional former-Marine police detective Mac Taylor, whose stoic exterior masks the pain of losing his wife in the World Trade Center attacks. Taylor's forensics team includes his tough-as-nails partner, Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes); the sexy but street-smart investigator Aiden Burn (Vanessa Ferlito); no-nonsense tough guy Don Flack (Eddie Cahill); smart-aleck detective Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo); and the briskly efficient coroner, Sheldon Hawkes (Hill Harper). Bathed in somber, blue-tinged cinematography, the spinoff emphasizes well-drawn character development without sacrificing any of the grisly criminal and scientific elements that made its parent show such a smashing success.

CSI New York FOR THE WIN.5
I love all the incarnations of CSI but New York is by far my favorite, it's darker and gritter then the others but still follows the orignals winning formula.

This boxset is only the first part of season 1, it is frustrating they released the season in two sets but the price makes its still a good but when buying both compared to other television boxsets and you still get a good amount of episodes per box with added extras.

Excellent and realistic drama5
It is hard to imagine that the third series in the franchise, set in a city already "covered" by NYPD Blue could get attention. It works. Episodes vary enormously in content and therefore give a brilliant insight into the different tiers of living and diversity of cultures in New York. The primary double act of Mack and Stella are tough and totally believable, both roles acted with strong credibility.

A minor point but it is great to see New York from so many sky angles.

The box set begins with Tanglewood, about a new generation of Mafia and the wannabe associates, is directed and acted with style. A mid-way episode is set in a dog show, and is highly entertaining and insightful after some of the darker episodes in the first box set.

A great series, that contributes to the franchise and compliments the other CSI series, as the US is as diverse from corner to corner as countrys are in Europe.

I have heard that some CSI die hard stalwarts have not got into CSI:NY. As a latecomer, I cannot see why. It is every bit as good as the others. These latter 11 episodes of series 1 are a little more watcheable and less disturbing than the first 12.

gritty drama5
set in the post 9/11 world of new york (manhattan) csi new york is a gritty, dark look at city life. focusing more on the personal lives of the csi team than more than the two other series. great stories, great acting, another star in the csi franchise.
