A real must-buy for pop-up engineering!
If you want to learn how to do pop-ups, this book is the best place to start! I bought quite a few different books in the area that ranged from covering basic pop-up tecniques for greetings cards to technical books for more complicate projects. Really, I only needed this one book - 'The Elements of Pop-Up' is a fantastic book that actually has all the pop-up examples made up on the page so you're not just looking at pictures thinking 'where do I put the fold??!' - there are tips and instructions but you can figure things out just by looking at the ready-made examples.
As well as all kinds of pop up examples (basic & more complex), the book also includes a selection of wheel mechanisms and pull tabs which would be invaluable if you are making a pop-up storybook that requires the reader to 'pull the tab' to animate the pop-up. The tips are really useful here but you can also lift up the page flap and figure out how it's put together just by looking at what's going on underneath the page!
It doesn't matter whether you are just a hobbyist or a design student, a graphic designer or anything else, this is highly recommended to all who are interested in paper art/pop-ups/paper engineering! It's well laid out, easy to follow and just a fantastic buy!
Fantastic!
This book is excellent if you are interested in paper engineering and pop ups. It begins with an amazing, impressive pop up at the start of the book, which was made by the different pop up examples throughout the book.
The book consists of 32 different popups and 11 wheels and pull tabs, each one shows the finished popup with an explanation of how to make it and how it works. You can also see how the popups work by taken them apart and recreating them.
I have to admit some of these are extremely difficult (not for children) , but well worth it, when they are completed. The more simpler popups are shown by the 'easy' symbol beside them.
This book is well worth the money! Plenty of examples and fun to create.
Thanks for reading!
