Manufacturer's Description
The new Electrolux Callisto has been developed to address a number of the key problems associated with today's bagless vacuum cleaners. Having listened to what consumers told us in our research - the result is a user-friendly cyclonic cylinder packed with features for easier and hassle-free vacuuming.
Many of today's bagless cleaners require frequent filter cleaning, since the filters are often located inside the dust bin they can become clogged up with dirt very quickly. Plus, people are often unsure of how frequently the filters need changing, since there is no indicator to tell them. The Callisto has specially developed with a 'No Touch' easy clean filter system. There are two HEPA filters which are interchangeable - simply switch the filters and rotate the dirty filter 360 degrees, the indicator light will come on once the filter is totally clean. You'll have clean filters every time you vacuum, without the need to wash them and wait for them to dry!
Another common problem with bagless cleaners is messy emptying. Quite often, two hands are needed to struggle emptying and replacing the bin, plus the dust is not easy to dispose of hygienically.
The Callisto can be emptied by simply pressing a button on the side of the dust bin to release the dirt. Simply press the button and dump the dirt!
With today's multi-surface homes, the floor nozzle needs to be capable of adjusting for carpets and hard flooring, the Calisto has a self adjusting nozzle to suit any surface you are cleaning. With its high performance nozzle with front and side suction edges, the Callisto works perfectly on all floors. Add to this a powerful 1800W motor, 13 metres cleaning reach, suction control, a 360 degrees swivel hose and tools on board, and the Callisto is the perfect choice for hassle-free 'cleaner' cyclonic vacuuming.

Great vacuum cleaner for all floor types
I needed a vacuum cleaner that would cope well with both hard floors and carpets as well as being easy to stow away in a house with not alot of storage cupboards. After looking at what was available I decided on the Z8240 due to it being a cylinder design (small) but with a motorised brush (good on carpet).
After using this vacuum for the first time I was immediately impressed. The whole thing feels solid and well made with all the attachments fitting well and securely. While in use it seems alot quieter than my old goblin even though it's more powerful.
As for performance I can't fault it. The motorised brush helps it pick up all those bits of fluff that seemed to stick to the carpet and resist my old vacuum, forcing me to pick them up by hand. On hard the hard floor it copes just as well sucking up dust and hair with ease.
The dust bin emties easily with a one handed trigger to open and close and is easily detached and replaced on the main unit.
As far as negatives go, it does seem fairly heavy for a cylinder type but not as heavy as an upright cleaner. There is plenty of reach on the hose though so stairs can be managed OK. Also the dust capacity is fairly small so it needs emtying more frequently. I was also put off by the price at first glance but it is cheaper than many similarly equiped cleaners such as those from Dyson or Miele.
All in all a good buy.
Electroluxury
I bought my Electrolux Z8240 in a closing down sale at the Co-op for an amazing £104.99. The rrp is £179.99 which is a bit pricy, but please do not let this put you off. Its more than a match for the dyson and it even has some advantages over it.
Okay so first impressions, well after carrying it about a mile from the shop to where I had parked the car, I can say that for its size it is fairly heavy. This is the only down side, beside the the pricetag.
So i took it out of the box and it becomes apparent that the wieght of the item is down the pure solid build of the vacuum. Fear not, it has big soft wheels so maneouverabilty is not a problem. Combine this with the 10 metre power cord and the 3 metre reach from the handle you should be able to reach most of your house from one plug (unless you live in a mansion, in which case you probably have a maid and don't care about vacuum cleaners).
So I put it together and noticed that on the hose connections there was three prongs on each part. Carefully sliding them into place (incase I damage this pins) I noticed that the attachments have three buttons at the top of the handle. These are a remote control for the cleaner, with an on a min and a max button, hence the three prongs.
The main attachment has a revolving brush to pick up those hard to collect particles, and even on minimum power (which is very quite in use) it picks up twice as much as my old upright. Stick the cleaner on Max and you better nail down your rugs and watch you don't suck the wallies out of your grandads mouth. There is an upholstery attachment and another few which are neatly stored in the handle (for corners and bookshelves etc.
Another neat feature is that when you are done the machine automatically winds the cable up for you, storing it neatly inside the cleaner. There is nothing worse than winding up the cable when you are done hoovering.
Add the above feature to a machine that cleans its own filters (it really does) is low profile and can get under most cabinets and has a one handed easy empty facility you get yourself a pretty impressive piece of kit.
It has been pointed out that I didn't metion about emptying (which I havce above) but for more info, the emptying can be done sigle handed. It has a one button release from the machine all you do is hold it over the bin and push the little lid button and hey presto, it opens and disposes of your dirt in one go.

an excellent top of the range vacuum cleaner
this vacuum cleaner is truly great. it is a great price and it has a much higher spec than a its closest competitors. it is pretty hard to find a comparable model as the electrolux has so many unique points.
performance it is fantastic. suction does not drop so it is similar to the dyson. however, cleaning the electrolux is a lot easier and the big plus for me was the self-cleaning filter system. this meant that the filter is more likely to be as clean as possible, unlike traditional vacuums when it is pretty easy to leave cleaning the filters to another time.
it is a little heavy, however the wheels and easy running of the machine mean this is not really an issue. indeed, for cleaning the stairs and bringing it back down, etc, it is actually easier than most as it has such a compact frame.
it has a huge range - i am pretty short and with the long cable and huge hose, it is easy to vacuum every nook and cranny - no more spiders webs in the lampshade!
the onboard tools mean you have everything where you need them and makes storage easier.
on a negative, it is a little loud. however, it is no louder than any other vacuum cleaner and it has a huge power behind it. i find it difficult to see how this vacuum can possibly be improved upon. for the price you get a performance and ease of use that no other model matches. highly recommended.
