The best there is
The best book there is if you want to tie flies.
Every tyer should own this regardless of their level, it will provide you with the methods to tie any fly you wish. The book is an easy to follow reference work on techniques and as such does not contain recipes for tying full flies, instead it goes through the processes for constructing a fly. It gives several methods for any part of the fly eg attaching of types of tails, making bodies etc.
The Fly Tier's Benchside Reference Guide
If there is one book any serious amateur fly tier has to own it is this one. Brillantly illustrated with clear directions and photographic sequences. Excellent chapter on what to look for when buying fur and feathers etc, a subject matter often ignored in most other fly tying books. The book lists the many different methods which can be used to achieve the same effect e.g. winging, hackling etc etc etc and leaves you to make up your mind which one you choose to use in your tying.
A must have.
First Class
Although this book may seem expensive, it is worth every penny. Every tying technique is beautifully illustrated, and excellently cross-referenced. It ouses quality, and is clearly written. From basic thread management to expert level, it is all here. It has helped me enormously. What more can I say - BUY it!
