Im In the Mood for Dancing.....4
I am female, very early 40s, was slender in my 20s, ballooned in my 30s and lost it and ballooned again. I'm now in the process of losing it for the last time and I have to say this DVD was designed for people exactly like me.
This is a "no frills" workout. No expensive set, no hoards of enthusiastic skinny lycra clad "classmates, no expensive equipment needed. Handweights are bottles filled with water and although they do use a mat for the floor work a folded bath towel would be just as efficient.
Mikey Smith is the instructor and has been Colleen's personal trainer through her weight loss. Think of a cheerful Peter Andre with all the right Personal Training Qualifications, a cheeky grin, no hint of being patronising, but not overdoing the enthusiastic running commentary. The man is a star and the kind of trainer we all need.
The only other person in the DVD is Colleen herself. She and Mikey go through each routine together, and when there is a choice of impact options, Mikey takes the high and Colleen the low (so no guilt about wimping out.... If it's good enough for Colleen then it's good enough for me).....
As a workout it's fantastic fun. The warm up gives you a taste of what's to come, the Lo Burn aerobic section has you working up a sweat and picking up the steps so that when it comes to Inferno (the high intensity aerobic section) you're familiar enough with the moves to be able to strut your stuff with confidence. I guarantee if you do this workout with a friend, within ten minutes you'll feel like members of Pans People (or Legs & Co for younger readers.....).
The disco aerobic sections will have you working up a sweat, working out with a grin on your face, and feeling like you've had a lot of gain without very much pain.......
The pain does come however, in the form of the Ab workout. It takes a couple of run throughs to be able to keep up the pace on the screen but it is a darned good workout for bums, tums and thighs. The section is only 10 minutes long which is short enough to be able to see the end in sight even a couple of minutes in, but the intensity is enough to be able to feel it working and to get rapid results.
The toning section works on thighs, some abs, and posture and involves sitting down (which I thought was a bit of a cop out until I did the workout and could feel it working muscles I didn't know I had).
The cool down is pretty standard - but necessary for optimum results. If you were to do the whole workout it would take just under an hour, but as it's broken down into sensible sections it's very easy to do three 30-minute sessions a week (as recommended by Colleen) and the DVD menu makes it easy to flick through all the combinations in order to vary your workout.
The "Extras" comprise a five minute interview with Colleen who describes her weight loss battle and her reasons for producing this DVD. There is also a "healthy eating" section which was the only disappointment on the whole thing. This comprises Mikey and Colleen discussing various healthy eating options but really just mentions food items by name without really going into detail about how and why.... But I guess if you wanted a nutritional guru... you wouldn't buy an Exercise DVD... so as an "extra" it does what it says on the box.
All in all... fantastic value for money. Colleen smiles broadly throughout the whole workout - even when she's getting breathless and a little sweaty... Mikey encourages and explains at exactly the right level...and I finished the workout wishing it had been a little longer.... which, I assure you, is a FIRST!!

Disco Inferno in your living room!5
It's time to revisit those Disco Classics... Colleen's Disco Burn DVD will have you grooving on down and no doubt bring back memories too. The whole feel of the DVD is fun and lively. It is very well produced and it's great to have a workout set to real music, a feature sadly missing in many workout DVD's.

The way the DVD is designed means that you can do the whole lot, or tailor make the workout to suit you with a routine selection feature.

The timings of each section are as follows...
Warm up - Approx. 14 mins
Disco Aerobics , Low Heat - Approx. 10 mins
Disco Aerobics , Inferno - Approx. 10 mins
Disco Tone , conditioning burn - Approx. 5 mins
Disco Tone , condition and balance - Approx. 8 mins
Disco Tone , floor moves - Approx. 7 mins
Cool Down - Approx 7 mins

This means if you're short of time you can break up the workout, sometimes doing an aerobics mix, at other times doing a toning mix (plus warm up and cool down) Each one would take just over 40 mins. I've never been a fan of muscle work. I love to dance, but without dance, I can find workouts quite boring. The thing about this DVD is that the toning sections are concise, which means they're finished before you know it - and in total, they add only 20 mins to the aerobic mix. This has meant I have been more inclined to do the whole DVD,and therefore get a more effective workout. Plus the toning sections are also set to great disco tracks, which makes them even more appealing!

The music keeps you inpsired. Anyone who likes this kind of music will love the soundtrack. The full track listing can be found in the product description.

The steps are great fun, quite funky and not at all hard to follow. Because it's dancey, you are able to carry out the workout to suit your own level of fitness. If you're finding it too easy, krank it up a bit... Make the movements bigger or embellish the steps a touch, I know I do! The trainer Mikey leads the workout with a fun, yet down to earth presentation and Colleen is clearly enjoying herself, but lets Mikey take the lead, modestly participating without comment or interference.

At the end of an hour, you have been motivated to work hard, but have had great fun, like you've just been to a great mini Christmas party, without the hangover or the sore feet!

I love this DVD. If you love Disco, and you love dancing, you will too!

Coleen Nolan's DiscoBurn5
This is a well-constructed exercise routine with the emphasis on fun. Ideal, perhaps, for those who don't want to join a gym, or for someone who wants to supplement an existing training regime with a different training method which can be undertaken at home.

The routines are broken down into easy-to-follow sections with a brief explanation before each. The aerobic elements will indeed encourage fat-burning, but there are lots of body conditioning elements too which will help firm up and reshape the body - a perfect combination.

Coleen's instructor, Mikey, is inspirational and guides you expertly and safely through the moves.

Overall, a highly effective and very enjoyable way to achieve a lean and well-toned physique.
