Manufacturer's Description
Given the success of Canon's highly acclaimed G Series, it's no surprise that ambitious photographers have been eagerly anticipating the next model in its evolution. The wait has paid off handsomely with the introduction of the PowerShot G9. In image quality and functionality, the G9 stands above the competition with 12.1 megapixels of resolution, a 6x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer, and RAW mode for the ultimate in creative control. Sophisticated design and high-quality construction complement the technology and make the G9 a camera to be reckoned with.

"Free" delivery of prtoducts that I always seem to be chrged for.
I have odered several items from you and I some how always seem to end up being charged for delivery. I do not like ordering items which I beleive I am ordering from Amazon only to find that they are being sent by someone else.
Poor man's Leica?
yes, it's really that good. I'm a news shooter and have done quite a few jobs with this camera. It also shoots pretty good video which is more in demand these days. No flip out screen like the old G5's ? but, Ive never had that. Too big to go clubbing with it is my main leisure camera too.
Great Design, Poor Quality Control
Having finally decided to sell my antiquated and very heavy 35mm SLR and embrace the digital revolution, I decided to go for the Canon PowerShot G9 rather than a DSLR as it seemed to offer most of the flexibility and image quality of a DSLR in a relatevely lightweight and compact format. However, on receiving the camera, I noticed that there were two stuck pixels on the image sensor which appeared as bright red dots in every image and could also be seen on the display screen. I returned the camera to Amazon and requested a replacement but was astounded to find that this also contained stuck pixels, in this case two red and one blue, although only the blue pixel was visible on the display screen. I returned this one too but decided on a refund on this occasion as I'm not prepared to take the risk that the next example will also be defective.
This has been an extremely disappointing experience. All the reviews pointed to the G9 being one of the best ever examples of a compact digital camera and it certainly lived up to my expectations in terms of its classic design and overall build quality. However, I now realise that the problems that I experienced are not uncommon and there would appear to be a major quality control issue with this model. I still find it difficult to believe that such a highly respected manufacturer as Canon could allow this situation to arise. Could it be that the cameras are leaving the factory in perfect working order but are developing these faults during shipping? If this is the case, then it suggests that the number of stuck pixels could also rise over time...
Fortunately, Amazon's returns service has been faultless and the experience hasn't left me out of pocket. However, I'm now very wary of digital cameras and will be much more careful with my next choice of model!
