Product Description

Doctors have always considered type II diabetes to be an irreversible condition. But, as Dr Barnard shows in this groundbreaking book, this is simply not true. In a series of studies, he has proven that it is possible to repair insulin function and reverse type II diabetes, and in this book he shows you how.

Using this scientifically proven, life-changing programme, you will be able to control your blood sugar levels three times more effectively than with other well-respected diets for people with diabetes. With Dr Barnard’s programme, you will eat regular meals throughout the day, building each meal on the 'New Four Food Groups': vegetables, fruits, whole grains and pulses. This new way of eating will improve the way your body responds to insulin – thereby reversing the defining symptom of diabetes. In fact, many people will find they are able to cut back on medication after just a few weeks on this programme.

With its emphasis on high-fibre, low GI foods and its foundation on proven scientific fact, this is a programme that will work for you.

Customer Reviews

This could be life-changing5
I have been a diabetic for 9 years and I have learned more in the last week whilst reading this book than in the whole preceding time.
Having followed the diet faithfully for 7 days I have lost 7 lbs in weight and reduced my blood glucose from 7.3 to 6.3 mmol/litre, without feeling hungry.
I have been advised for the past year to go onto insulin, but I am now hopeful of not only avoiding this for some years but also being able to reduce medication.
The best few pounds I have ever spent.

An inspirational and life changing book!5
Without any doubt whatsoever, I found this book to be the most inspirational that I have ever read and I am confident that it has changed my life for the better.

I was been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes more than 8 years ago. In that time everything that had been said to me told me that I had started a gradual but inevitable downward spiral that would end in various health complications and early death. However, this book has told me that there is a graet deal that I can do to reverse this situation and improve my lot.

I must confess that I have not embraced Dr Barnard's advice in its entirety - owever, I have moved my diet a long way towards what he suggests. What have I achieved? In approximately three months, my Hba1c has dropped from 9.4 to 5.7 and is still dropping and I have lost 15 kgs in weight. Life is certainly looking much brighter for me than it did before!

The book is very well written and entirely readable. In fact, I've just started reading the book for a second time to try to find things that I missed the first time.

Dr Barnard is an American doctor and author. I have found that this sometimes causes problems with books being published for a different country - this being due to different terminologies and details such as units making books almost uneadable. However, this book has most definitely been written for UK readers - the first time I've ever come across this being done. The author has done this remarkably well and very successfully!

In my opinion, this book about healthy eating is a must for all diabetics whether they be Type 2 or Type 1. Without doubt, the best money that I have ever spent! Buy it and read it!

Not the best diabetes advice ever2
This book is great if you want to become a vegan and try to control diabetes through not eating anything much. It advocates the advice that I first had when diagnosed, that is to follow a diet based on grains, pulses and complex carbs supplemented by fruit and veg. It also advocates taking vast quantities of supplements to top up missing viatamins and minerals. I'm not too sure though how a book that preaches healthy lifestyle for diabetics can justify the inclusion of sugar and glucose syrup in the 'healthy' recipes section though! Good concept, less convincing in it's content though.
