Manufacturer's Description
Dracula: Origin is the new adventure game from Frogwares studio, the team that developed the famous Sherlock Holmes series for PC. Having successfully tackled the myth of Cthulhu in Sherlock Holmes - The Awakened, Frogwares is once again venturing into a disturbing and fantastic universe, the world of the Prince of Darkness, in an adventure which combines romanticism, mystery and horror.
Young, charming and devout, Dracula was once an ardent defender of Christendom but lost his faith in God when he is abandoned by his one true love after she marries. Count Dracula then makes a pact with the Prince of Darkness, and becomes a vampire with an insatiable thirst for blood and vengeance, cursed to eternal damnation.
In the game, you play the role of Professor Van Helsing, the celebrated vampire hunter, on the hunt for Dracula, while Dracula himself is on a quest for a mysterious manuscript which will give him the power to raise the dead.
Your goal is to prevent Dracula from finding and using this manuscript, and also to kill him, in order to liberate the souls of all those who have had the misfortune to cross his path.
Using conventional Point & Click gameplay, Dracula: Origin is a superb adventure supported by impeccable graphics and a rich storyline, which takes you to London, Egypt, Austria, and of course, to Transylvania, in the famous home of the great vampire. With a subtle combination of 2D environments and animated 3D characters, the game faithfully reproduces the world imagined by the celebrated author Bram Stoker, with all its associated motifs (horror, love, blood, crucifixes, stakes, garlic, etc.), in a disturbing, finely-realized and absorbing Gothic atmosphere.

A solid enjoyable adventure
This is a classic point and click adventure game with very well rendered scenery and good story although not original in any way. The story goes that Count Dracula is looking for a demonic book that will allow him to resurrect his long lost love and in the process bring about Armageddon. You play as Van Helsing, upon receiving a letter from your friend Harker who was adventuring with a purpose of defeating count Dracula, you realise he did not succeed and more so Harker carelessly endangered his fiancee, Mina, whom Dracula now chose as a vessel for his dead love to inhabit.
All in all I've played through it in about 10 hours or so, the puzzles and good, not too difficult to cause any frustration but not too easy to be boring either. The game feels like a good book with animation actually. I gave the overall score of 4 stars for lack of originality and story twists, other than that, I see no fault with the game and would recommend it to anyone who likes supernatural stories and puzzle solving.
Decent but the worst ending ever in a game
This is a really really short game but then i was using the spacebar all the time.. the spacebar shows all the hotspots and items on the screen which can eliminate any frustration but at the same time makes the game very easy. The graphics are great, the backdrops are stunning esp later in the game. It is seriously lacking in atmosphere for a game like this and not scary at all but very pretty nontheless. There are a few stupid puzzles like trapping the coachman and a bit too much random combining stuff and a couple of the puzzle puzzles are impossible to do without looking on the net unless maybe if u have a degree in ancient history and symbols. The game has reasonable voice acting and decent sound.
But the ending!?!? This is officially the WORST ending to any game i have ever played and im kinda of glad the game was so short cos if it took me ages only to get that i would of probably snapped the disc in half! what a letdown, i guess they ran out of cash or couldnt be bothered towards the end. Not only is there no final confrentation but the ending scene last approx 10 seconds and doesnt make sense.
Still despite all that i enjoyed it, and if u have already played Bloodlines and want another Vampire fix then u should defintely look into this. Just dont expect it to be as good.
Does work
I've got windows 7, it will not play on it even when i run it as administrator or winxp compatability mode, pity really as was looking for a replacement for masquerade - bloodlines. Was dead easy to install though.
