Product Description

The fruits of a fifteen-year labour of love, this is an evocative and beautifully conceived tribute to the unique bond that exists between man and horse. These photographs show horses and their owners from all corners of the earth, often in far-flung, stunning locations. They are astonishingly varied â some are posed, formal photographs, while others are taken in more natural surroundings, bucking the usual practice of traditional, rigidly prescribed horse photography. As well as celebrating the beauty and diversity of different breeds, Arthus-Bertrandâs photographs illuminate the profound relationship that exists between man and horse, a relationship that holds a universal appeal and endless fascination.

Breathtaking5
'Horses' is one of those books that moves you when you read and look at the pictures. The majesty of the horse has been perfectly captured, so that power is laced with grace and courage with kindness. All these feelings can be drawn from these superb photographs. Whether you love horses like I do, or are simply into photography, this is a must have masterpiece.

wonderful5
A must have. A wonderfull book for horse lovers that want to eye rest at home when by any reason you cant go out to ride, or for someone who loves animals and photography. An artistic approach to a worldwide view on horse breeds and ways of living.

Lovely hardback that could make a horse-fan out of someone4
I bought this book as artist reference material after browsing it in a local bookshop. The size and page count do not disappoint, neither do the lovely photographs. Although I am not personally much of a horse-lover, this book conveys the speed, agility and sheer power of the different breeds very effectively. The photos of the horses with their owners, along with the readily-understandable text, gives me a sense of the place these animals play in the various societies they come from. The only reason I do not quite give this book all five stars is that all the photos are very much staged, and while this allows for excellent attention to control of the photographic conditions, there are no photos here of horses running around "in the wild". Having sid that, there are ample shots of action such as running or jumping, taken with a very fast shutter speed to allow depiction of the musclature during fast movement.
