pocket guide5
A fantastic little book containing many of the signs needed for taking a medical history or just understanding what a deaf person in hospital is trying to tell you.
It is very basic and needs no prior knowledge of sign language as the illustrations are very good. It's not as comprehensive as Cath Smith's book but it's cheaper and thinner! a very good introduction.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone, especially students or professionals working in a healthcare setting (it fits nicely into the pockets of your white coat!)
Our medical school BSL society organises introductions to deaf awareness for students and staff and this is the book we give out at the end!

good but much better available2
This book gives some useful signs for use within the hospital setting, but many are just the usual everyday signs which maybe useful for talking with members of hospital staff. However, it gives very little of the hospital specific vocab which is hard to find in other dictionaries. I would recomend looking at the book "Signs of Health" which gives many more signs and ones which are specific to hospitals, such as ultrasound/infection/diagnose/constipated!

a great pocket sized book for those working in health care wanting to communicate with deaf. I have used mine on numerous occasions and it has proved to be very useful.
