Synopsis

Live from London's glittering East End comes Man to Man with Dean Learner--a spoof chat show hosted by none other than showbiz tycoon Dean Leaner (Richard Ayoade). Bringing his unique brand of culture and sophistication to the masses, Learner interviews an array of distinguished guests--from world-renowned horror writer Garth Marenghi, to legendary folk guitarist Merriman Weir--all of whom are played to comic perfection by the show's co-writer Matthew Holness.

Don't Forget The Extras!
I found hours of Extras and an Easter Egg on the DVD not mentioned in the Product Details. There are extras for all Episodes: deleted scenes, extended scenes, trailers, stills, backstage footage, audio commentary, storyboard, a pilot episode... and much much more!

So many DVD's just have the show and very little else so I appreciate the extra effort made. If you liked the show you'll love the DVD. More like this please!!!!

More genius from the people who brought you Darkplace
`Man to Man with Dean Learner' is by the same people that did `Garth Marenghi's Darkplace', the parody of an 80's hospital drama/ horror show, presented by the people who made it. Like that show, this is also a parody type show. This time it is a talk show though, that further expands upon the characters created in Darkplace. Because of this, I would definitely recommend you watch that first, as it will mean a lot of the in gags will be way funnier.

The basic premise of the show is Dean Learner, club and restaurant owner, manager of failed celebrities, and publisher of pornographic magazines, talks with close friends, man to man. While all that seems simple enough, and this certainly isn't the first show to parody talk shows, this one is utterly unique because to be honest with you, it is unbelievably hilarious. In my opinion, useless as that is, I think this is even funnier than Darkplace; a feat not to be taken lightly.

The real strength of the show is the guests that it features. All are made up, and all are played by Matthew Holness, co-creator and writer. The first guest is of course, Garth Marenghi, and he is followed by others, such as a dreadful folk singer, a formula five race car driver, and a gay sci-fi actor who, during the interview, catches on fire and has to be rushed to a hospital in Hawaii. There are more but I'm too lazy to name them all.

Unlike Darkplace that lost its edge a little during the last couple of episodes, this is consistently laugh out loud funny throughout the six episodes on offer here. Seriously. There wasn't a single episode where I wasn't, for most of it, laughing my head of uncontrollably. My favorite one definitely being the episode where the folk singer spends the first half playing songs he has written. I know a lot of comedies have done musical humor but I'm telling you, none of them did it as well as it is done here. Every song is hilarious and the interactions between the folk singer, I can't remember his name, and Dean Learner are priceless. As is basically everything he says. Actually, Dean Learner is probably the best thing about this show. Richard Ayoade is a fricking genius. There's no two ways about it. The man is a genius.

So anyway, that's my review. Watch this because it is hilarious. What else do I really need to say?

This is great comedy
Reviewing comedy is pretty easy. You basically have to answer the question "did I laugh?" and the answer here is a resounding yes. i laughed belly laughs. Richard Ayoade and Matthew Holness are fantastic and certainly on their way to becoming certified comedy greats. I would highly recommend this DVD not only because the show is great but because they also give you a LOT of bang for buck on the extras unlike a lot of comedy DVD's which just throw on an interview.
