Synopsis
The man Ricky Gervais has described as “the funniest, most cliché-free comedian on the circuit” returns to reinvent stand-up comedy television. Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle marks the return of arguably one of Britain’s finest stand up comedians and shows him at his masterful and hilarious best. Each of the six episodes sees Stewart explore a different theme, in a stand-up routine illustrated with sketches featuring an ensemble cast of well known comic talent. In each episode Stewart sets out to answer a question that addresses a specific aspect of modern life; “Why”, for example, “is there a tide of banal books in bookshops threatening to engulf us? Does the world really need celebrity hardbacks?” Stewart’s on a journey to find out – and meets some interesting authors along the way. “Has political correctness really gone mad, or is it just that a lot of people confuse political correctness with health and safety legislation?” Stewart tries to pick his way through the PC minefield, and reveals how it only made him put on weight. Stewart sets out to discover the truth about popular television duo Ant and Dec, and visits a quaint English village where The Funniest Thing That’s Ever Been On Television Ever has given rise to a unique rural tradition. Sort of. Whatever the topic, Stewart addresses it with razor sharp wit, using every argument at his disposal to convey his point. And you’ll have learned something along the way (which may or may not be true). Written by and starring Stewart Lee (Jerry Springer the Opera, Fist of Fun, This Morning with Richard, Not Judy) Also starring Kevin Eldon (Nighty Night, Jam, Hyperdrive), Paul Putner (Little Britain, The Peter Serafinowicz Show), Stephen K. Amos (In my Country) Richard Webb (Dead Ringers, Man Stroke Woman) Executive Producer Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It, I'm Alan Patridge).

Lovely extras
The episodes are all excellent, and I enjoyed each one when they were broadcast. Top work, Mr Lee.
However, it is the extras supplied that enticed me into buying this 2 disk set.
Commentaries on each episode (Stew plus support), interviews with Armando Iannucci, and a 16 minute documentary about the making of the series.
I must warn Daily Mail readers against purchasing this DVD though. You may insult its intelligence.
A real special find
I have been a fan of Stewart Lee since the 90's when he was in "Fist of Fun" and recently found his newer stand up DVD's on Amazon so soon had them all and was refreshingly suprised by the amount of material he has been busy making in the mean time. SO I typed his name into google and found this series was being filmed in London and that if you lived far enough away you could even apply for free tickets! Well before I knew it id recieved a very appreciated Email and was on my way to see him. It was a night I will never forget, he was even more witty and insightful than I remebered or had seen on his DVD's.
Brave, masterful, and subtle with surgically accurate sarcasm.
Off-Beat Humour
If you are open-minded to humour, give Stewart Lee 10 minutes to express his laconic, intelligent humour - and you'll be hooked on his style.
This is one of the funniest guys in the UK and deserves more exposure.
