Not one to read
I received this book with some eagerment, expecting to find a detailed, am more importantly ACCURATE review of caves in South Wales. Unfortunately, if I'd used this book as the basis for some recent cave expeditions I would have become lost!
The details contained are somewhat sketchy. For example on a recent SWC expedition to "Cwmtaff" the information was inaccurate! Not only were the distances hopefully inaccurate, the reader is given no warning of a 40 foot drop at the end of the first cavern!
We also used the book as a reference to Mer-Dalybont cave with similar results-the book was just plain wrong some of the time.
That said, the book does provide a lot of useful info to the novice caver.
Recomended guide.
I found this book to be a great help to me as someone who although an experienced caver was unfamilar with the caves of south wales. I found the location descriptions to be spot on and the cave descriptions to be more than adequate. A recomended buy to anyone visiting the area.
Caves of south Wales a cavers view
A good guide to the caves of south Wales with a long pedigree (in its 4th edition). It gives good information on the caves location and type of cave, but it is not a blow by blow account of all the caves passages. If you need that sort of help you should not be in the cave in the first place. All in all it is well worth getting if you plan to cave in south Wales.
