Customer Reviews

Good but not brilliant.3
I have not read a Jeffrey Archer book for years. I enjoyed the ones I did, but they started to get a bit "samey". This, I enjoyed, and had to keep going til the end, but there were a couple of things that really irritated me. Nitpicking perhaps, but there was a part at the beginning of the book during the trial, where Beth tells that she waited for the ambulance, and knew exactly how long it took to arrive because she kept looking at her watch. It fails to explain how she know the ambulance was coming because the "baddie" made the call. It also touches on the fact that she didnt make the call (during a cross examination) but never explains why.
Poor editing perhaps.
Anyway, despite that it was a good yarn, but not a book I would bother to read again.

A must read....wonderful stuff5
The other reviewers (well the ones who awarded 5 stars) have said it all aready. I adored this book as did my husband and I would urge you to buy this. A marvellous, page turning novel. The only downside is when you have finished it...it leaves you wanting so much more. Can't wait for the next offering from this wonderful author.

A real page-turner5
I heard an interview with Jeffrey Archer about this book and how he was inspired by Dumas's Count of Monte Cristo and so decided to give it a try. I have to admit to have snobbishly avoided Archer's books thinking that they would be rather trashy. How wrong I was, to judge by this book. From the first chapter one is bowled along by the gripping story that's full of surprises. I get the impression that not only did the author use his experiences in prison to add authenticity, but that he's also done quite a bit of research over other details. It's a cracking good read.
