Synopsis
1939 - Nazi Germany - The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier. Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall. Some important information - this novel is narrated by death. It's a small story, about: a girl; an accordionist; some fanatical Germans; a Jewish fist fighter; and quite a lot of thievery. Another thing you should know - death will visit the book thief three times.

When i first brought this book, all my friends thoguht I was mad buying a book that size. I didn't really care because when I first began to read it, it drew me into the story and mixed me into it. I love this book so much. Its an extrodanary tale, truley amazing. Forget about the size, because youll love it if your one of thoose people who lopve to read a really good book.Just read it and you will understand. If your not too scared about the whole death thing, which i think everybody can overcome, its amazing!!!
So much better than I had expected
A friend bought me this book as a gift as she had enjoyed it. I read the cover and on hearing that the book was narrated by death I was a bit sceptical. However it was a wonderful read and after I was a few pages in I couldn't put it down. I even had to hold back tears on the tube at certain points!
Loved It
I purchased this book a while ago and probably never would have read it, spurning it for its intimidating weightiness for smaller reads more suited to my lifesytle. However I spent last week in hospital and this book got me through it, I read it quickly, not due to the boredom but due to its help in suspending reality and the authors ability to draw you in. Its not the type of book I would typically read, but it was great, and as much as I wanted to finish it, I now have the difficult task of finding a book to follow it.
