Blind Guardians Finest Hour
Absoloutely stunned when I first heard this. This is by far the best Blind Guardian album to date.It was recorded back in 1995 & again produced by Flemming Rasmussen(who of course did Metallica's Master Of Puppets)who really brings out the best in these guys. There is a good crisp sound in the production & the vocals fit well in the mix.The songs are the best written so far & vary from pounding thrashing speed guitaring with blistering solo's to very calm incredibly melodic acoustic passages.Cram into this melodic choruses & this turns out to be a very mouthwatering album. It still blows me away when I listen to it now.If you are curious about Blind Guardian then "THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY"it truly rocks,if you want to know about Power Metal this is the Bible. If you like Blind Guardian then no doubt you already have this-if not why not!!!It just doesn't get better than this-ESSENTIAL POWER METAL!!!!!
A Tale of Epic Proportions
Let's see. It's a rock album, it's got nine tracks (what? only nine?!) and no fillers. Is it good? you bet.
Imaginations sees Blind Guardian at their peak, when the refinement observed in their previous albums (specially "Somewhere Far Beyond") was molded in an easily accessible and easy to take to the stage format, as opposed to later albums ("Nightfall in Middle Earth" springs to mind). The band had certainly come a long way since their "Battallions of Fear" days.
All the songs have an epic feel to them. Thomas Stauch's drumming is at his finest and Hansi Kurch's growl as powerful as ever, (but no death metal throat here lads), letting his more melodic side show off in the ballad "A Past and Future Secret".
Furhtermore, the album is produced by Fleming Rasmussen (yes, the guy from Metallica's "Master of Puppets"), so you kind of get an idea of that guitar sound, distorted but without getting painful to the ear.
I saw them live in 2003 when they didn't have much of an album to promote, and the set list included 7 tracks from "Imaginations...", so that shows a bit as well what the band think of their own albums.
If you have not heard Blind Guardian before, start here, and if you have but don't own this cd, do yourself a favour and buy it!
Best Blind Guardian Album ever?
2 Albums later and I'm still almost pressed to say yes. My preference just, but barely so, lies with Nightfall in Middle-Earth... mainly because of the whole mood that album creates. Regardless, my two favourite songs of all time both rest on this album. A mixture between anger, happiness, sorrow, heavy, and soft, this album is a worthy addition to any metal fan's collection.
