Customer Reviews

Great music from North Carolina's Finest5
Apologies to the previous reviewer, but the Connells hail from Raliegh, North Carolina, home of one of the most underrated music scenes in America over the last 15 years. Ring features some of the Connells best work, notably '74-'75, which was their biggest hit single and a #1 hit in many European countries in the summer of 1995. Of course, this band is far better than your average pop singles band. Ring features strong songwriting throughout the album and boasts several songs that should have been hit singles - Find Out, Slackjawed, Eyes On The Ground are especially impressive. These days, the band is technically still active but rarely tours beyond the southeastern U.S.. It's a shame that such a deserving band went largely unnoticed in the media. In terms of quality and quantity, Mike Connell has written enough pop gems to fill an entire catalog. While the Connells may not be as melodramatic as Oasis, Mike Connell's songs are every bit as good and in many cases better that Noel Gallagher. Do yourself a favor and buy their music. Start with Boylan Heights and buy Ring and Still Life as well. You won't be disappointed.

Possibly the best album to ever come out of Canada5
To anyone that ever doubts that Canada could produce anything to rival some of the best material to come out of the UK, "Ring" is a revelation. For a start, it has that rare quality in an album of literally having no dodgy tracks - the consistency and quality is uncompromising from start to finish, with singles such as "Slackjawed" and the almost seminal "74-75" sitting comfortably with the lofty heights of "Running Mary, Carry My Picture," with every other track on the album in fact. Mike Connell's vocals and lyrics are more fine-tuned than ever and are carried wonderfully by the country-acoustic backing of the rest of the band. The sound samples give a fair indication of the quality, but it really has to be in your own home to be truly appreciated. Perfect.
