Canada II - Let's not forget the ladies!
StuffStuff by Holly McNarland
Buy used from: £0.81
How Alanis won global acclaim, while Holly was almost only a one-hit wonder ("Numb") in her native Canada, I don't know. She is a far better artist than Alanis, with or without the angst!
Home Is WhereHome Is Where by Holly McNarland
Buy used from: £5.24
I didn't even realise Holly had followed up "Stuff", until I was looking her up after hearing her on "Seven Circles". Different in temperament to "Stuff", but a great album nevertheless.
Sour PieSour Pie by Holly McNarland
Buy used from: £2.32
Holly's first EP, if you have either (or both) of the above, and were looking for more. Look out also for her "Live Stuff" EP.
Seven CirclesSeven Circles by The Tea Party
Buy new: £12.69 / Used from: £7.61
I love the track "Wishing You Would Stay" from the Tea Party's most overlooked and under-rated album. Holly's vocals sound great with Jeff Martin and co.
Thank UThank U by Alanis Morissette
Buy used from: £3.50
The demo of "Uninvited" on this single is (I think) better than the finished product...
City of AngelsCity of Angels by Original Soundtrack
Buy new: £10.28 / Used from: £0.55
...which you can find on this soundtrack.
Jagged Little PillJagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Buy new: £6.58 / Used from: £0.30
This is the only Alanis album I have as, after hearing "Thank You", I couldn't be bothered to check out her subsequent offerings. The anger in this is what makes it good, so once the fire was out...
The CollectionThe Collection by Alanis Morissette
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.44
Having said that, the price of this is almost (almost!) enough for me to see what I might have missed out on. I have to admit to being curious, now I've started this list!
Fumbling Towards EcstasyFumbling Towards Ecstasy by Sarah McLachlan
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £2.38
Without a doubt the best album Sarah McLachlan has released. No wonder this was the one which made her name, and is consistently rated her best. If you haven't heard her, start here...
The Freedom SessionsThe Freedom Sessions by Sarah McLachlan
Buy new: £6.67 / Used from: £0.62
...and carry on here. "The Freedom Sessions" stand up by themselves, but do sound best when listened to with FTE. This is easily my second favourite SM release.
SurfacingSurfacing by Sarah McLachlan
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.11
Often the critics' choice, but not mine. I think FTE was the peak, and this was the beginning of a downward slope. (That is, this is still better than what came next, though I've liked them all.)
SolaceSolace by Sarah McLachlan
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.89
I think "Solace" is a better album than "Surfacing" and would recommend it above it. It's less mainstream, and better for it. Some songs sound a bit dated, but not as much as those on "Touch".
Mirrorball: The Complete ConcertMirrorball: The Complete Concert by Sarah McLachlan
Buy new: £14.98 / Used from: £7.42
I don't have this, and don't plan to buy it, but if you don't already have the single CD version of this, you might want to check this out.
Let GoLet Go by Avril Lavigne
Buy used from: £0.37
Not exactly my cup of tea, but my wife really likes Avril Lavigne. I think the album is a little limited by the maturity of the singer, but it does show promise.
Under My SkinUnder My Skin by Avril Lavigne
Buy new: £4.88 / Used from: £0.98
A far better album than her first, and who knows what the future might bring. I don't mind when my wife plays this one... ;)
