The scope of this film, combined with the sheer audacity to attempt such a thing, is nothing short of breathtaking. Every single scene is remarkable, and David Tomlinson is sublime.

Although unrelentingly dark, this refreshingly non-patronising film is a must-see for all children. It's a never-ceasing feast.

Perfect. Approaching forty years old and still there's no animated film is history which dazzles the eyes quite as much. The perfect antidote to the recent rut of painfully bland animated features.

Disney's last great hurrah before it descended into charmless, sassy, knowing rot. This admirably-crafted tale is undeservedly little-known.

This could so easily have been workmanlike, patronising and worthless, but instead is a flawless Disney feature and one of its most unsung successes.

The overall best cinematic outing for Jim Henson's Muppets, not as unfocussed and dingy as the previous films and not as point-missing as the later ones.
