Sanyo eneloop rechargeable batteries can be used in the same way as a dry cell battery is used - out of the packet without the need for charging. However unlike a dry cell battery, when the Sanyo eneloop is exhausted it can be re-charged and used once more - in fact they can be recharge upto 1000 times. Sanyo eneloop batteries have a very low self-discharge; a fully charged battery will still hold around 90% of it's charge (if un-used) after 6 months and 85% after 12 months.
