Manufacturer's Description
Garmin International is pleased to announce the new Forerunner 50 sports watch with automatic sync. The Forerunner 50 is an affordable, streamlined sports watch that incorporates ANT+Sport™ wireless technology. It’s available with wireless heart rate and speed and distance (tracked by a footpod), or with both. You can even use this versatile sports watch for cycling, when paired with an optional speed/cadence sensor, or for multi-sport workouts.
Once you’ve logged the miles, Garmin’s innovative ANT™ wireless technology automatically transfers workouts to your computer when your device is within range (approx. 30 ft). No cables, no hookups. The data’s just there, ready for you to analyze, categorize and share through our new online community, Garmin Connect™.

My first running computer and I'm very pleased with my choice.
Sadly I paid well over the excellent Amazon price for this bundle in Sweden this week, but my rationale was that at least I could use it over the Easter weekend as I'd left it too late to get it from Amazon in time.
I spent about two hours reading through the manual thoroughly and testing the foot pod and HRM before I went out for my first "test run" with it this morning. I cannot recommend highly enough spending time to read and re-read the manual"before" setting out on a run as it takes a while to get yourself familiar with the set-up screens and views. Once you do though, this is a fantastic entry level running watch with the added bonus of distance and HRM measurement. The Garmin Training Centre software is a bit old fashioned (look and feel) but the web based Garmin Connect is excellent. Uploading data from the watch to the PC is a doddle, just plug in the USB stick (supplied) and put the watch somewhere nearby and bingo, your data is transmitted swiftly.
I was analysing my heart rate and mile times within a few minutes of uploading the data.
My only gripe is that the Garmin software is not Mac compatible which is a real pain for me as I'm a mac fanatic. I have to download on my works PC which is a drag (that is why only 4 stars). However, when data has been uploaded you can access it anywhere online using the Garmin Connect which works on PC's and Macs.
It is early days, only had the Forerunner 50 for a few days, but so far so good and I'm impressed.
Paying £30 over the odds in Sweden just to have it immediately was in hindsight a bad idea, but at least I've enjoyed using it today and will do a few other runs over Easter.
For less than £100 on Amazon, you really cannot afford not to buy this excellent package.
Come on Garmin, get your act together with Mac compatible software! Millions of runners worldwide are mac users and we expect more from you!
Great product!
I bought this to keep me motivated for a 10k run later this year. So far I've found it a really good training aid - fascinating to see my heart rate & pace whilst training - although it's taking me a while to figure out all the settings. My advice (like previous reviewer) would be to read & re-read the manual first - my first run with it ended up being 6 hours long because I forgot to save the data & then went out to the shops before I uploaded it...oops! It's a little more tricky than they make out! I couldn't get it to upload data automatically to my laptop (this could be just me of course) However I managed it manually without too much trouble & now it seems fine.
This bundle is by far the best price I found - and I would say, unless you want GPS tracking, that this is the best product for the job.
Good, but battery in footpod completely drained!
This seems to be a good product, but imagine my partners excitement dwindling when she tried to set it up (whilst on holiday at Butlins) but couldn't use the footpod as it appeared broken. Upon returning home I discovered that the battery was completely dead!! The battery in the heart monitor was fine, showing a full 3V, but the foorpod was onlt showing 0.04V!!! For a product that was opened from new this was disappointing.
