Synopsis
Ted Mosby is a bachelor who gets a wake up call when his best friend Marshall announces his plans to marry his longtime girlfriend. Told in flashback, the story follows Ted as he sets about finding his perfect match, armed with the less-than-reliable advice of his friend Barney. When he meets Robin, he's sure he's found the one, but somehow, things don't seem to be going as planned...

Funnier though....5
As people have said, like friends and you'll love this. It's a very similar series but a lot funnier and with better scripts and actors.

Awesomely funny5
I only came across How I Met Your Mother by chance last December when flicking through the channels one evening. About four months on I am very thankful for that piece of fortune as How I Met Your Mother is one of the finest comedy programmes I have had the pleasure of viewing. While it shares common ground with some of the best American sitcoms, notably Friends and Scrubs, this is a show bursting with a fresh sense of originality.

The writing is sharp, varied and very funny, rarely feeling stale, with the main cast excelling with such wonderful material. With much credit going to the writers for creating a piece of television that is both extremely accessible and very smart. And while the main characters are all great in their own right, in the shape of Barney Stinson you will find one of the funniest to ever grace the sitcom.

It is a shame that How I Met Your Mother is generally unknown on these shores, but this should not distract from you giving it a try. As the rest of the reviews about this show here demonstrate, this really is one of American television's biggest gifts to us. If you find out you like this first series, having seen the second and half of the third I'm pleased to report it just as good from here, maybe even better.

Sitcoms don't get much better than this5
Glad to see a sitcom whose gimmick doesn't exist purely to get it noticed on television only to fade away after the first half of a season. Instead, this one is truly kept alive throughout the show, which follows five successful New yorkers who experience plenty of ups and downs which inevitably always end up in humourous results. Sure, it has its share of catchphrases and is a bit far fetched, but it still has something special about it which ties everything and everyone in it together.
