Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
Leadership in Organizations focuses on effective leadership in organizations through both theory and practice. This book explains and critiques the major theories and studies that are most relevant and informative and reviews what we know about leadership effectiveness. This combination of theory and practice makes this text a useful resource for practicing managers who are looking for something more than superficial answers to difficult questions about leadership.
Customer Reviews
A book well worth buying.
The book sets out to do what many books on leaderships fail at, combine practical advice and academic research. Yukl succeeds in explaining many aspects of modern leadership research, but without making the text too complicated or detailed. This exposé of research is then used to make practical suggestions.
Boring and Hard going
I must say that I do not normally write reviews on all books that I read, but I thought I must alert people about this particular book. No doubt, this book is written thoroughly and in depth. It describes various relevant theories of leadership with a lot of so called empirical research experiments and findings. Many of them are no relevance to MBA studies. Only the plus point is that it includes practical guidelines on different theories, which are relevant and useful. However, the style is so boring, too descriptive and hard-going. In fact, this is the hardest text book that I ever read during my MBA studies. I would suggest Peter Northouse's Leadership Theory and Practice, 4th edition as an alternative book as it is better written and in sufficient depth for MBA level studies.
Well worth the investment
This is an excellent guide to the literature and research on management and leadership.
