I decided to write this book because I came across many questions on web forums asking for help on the basics of owning a boat. I realised that I had asked the same questions once, and it took years to find all the answers. There are many people willing to help, and there are countless books and magazines, but I have never come across a book as an introduction to boats written with anglers in mind. This is it.
This book was written as a "get you started" guide, so it provides the basic information you need to have on a range of topics. Many specialist books have been written on each area covered. Once you have a general grasp of what to do with your boat, and if you want to explore areas such as navigation, there are plenty more sources on the web, in magazines, books, videos and courses. I hope you will want to find out more.

Hard won learning!
This book fills a real need. Amongst small boat fishermen angling skills are generally better developed that seamanship and boat handling skills, and this book does an excellent job of correcting that balance. Strongly recommended.

Good as it gets...
BEWARE - THIS BOOK COST ME A FORTUNE!!
I bought it to read up on my mild interest in buying a fishing boat. Despite the warning in the first chapter that boating can seriously damage your wealth, I carried on reading and now there's a shiny new vessel sat outside my house! In all seriousness this is an excellent read and a bible for small sea fishing boats. Packed full of useful info and pictures. Highly recommended.
