Customer Reviews
Looks good but hard to use
First of all I like to say I have used Amazon for several years and have never had any problems with them. So do not be mislead by some of the reviewers here.
I bought two HD frames, this and a Linx 10". I was extremely pleased with the Linx and gave it 5 stars, but was disappointed with this one. It looks nicer and is made by a reputable company, but the usability is really something to be desired. I don't know what they were thinking of when they designed this frame. All I want is to display photos and a menu to control the settings in user friendly way. What is wrong with the existing technology? A remote or even a mouse would do. The menu is so unintuitive that it could be marketed as a puzzle. The buttons are touch sensitive, but you never know if you successfully pressed them. The standard is to either flash or bleep like other devices such as mobile phones. The buttons react very late and to make the mater worse pressing it twice is treated as two clicks and activates a button, which makes it very frustrating and confusing to use. It takes some getting use to. So to enable the menu you must touch and let go quickly. This is enough to put me off this product regardless of other good features.
Also, for the best viewing it is important to have the photo fit the frame perfectly. So I spent hours editing photos in 800x480 pixels. It also saves space. When running the photos on the frame I noticed a 5mm black border on each side. I assumed it is part of the frame. I then noticed the demo fills the screen without any gap, so I resized a sample photo and tried all sizes on by one until I realized the hight is slightly less that what is advertised. But I could be wrong.
Apart from these, it looks good, it has fine display, connections are good etc. I would rate this as my second favourite frame in comparison to Linx and is better than other frames I read reviews on.
Large frame from good manufacturer
This, at 10 inches, is one of the largest LCD frames on the market. I've owned one for a few weeks and can compare it to a £25 more expensive Sony frame. The Kodak frame scores higher than the Sony in that it is cheaper, the frame is larger, and it will play videos. Both frames are solidly built and have similar picture quality. Like smaller Kodak frames this has the same intuitive menu driven operating system and usefully it has some inbuilt memory so you don't need to leave a memory card in the frame.
For the price and size it's competitive especially if you want to show video. I'd be tempted to look at the Sony 9 inch frame as well though if you can live with a slightly smaller and more expensive frame without video functionality. The latter has a larger in built memory saving up to 1,000 pictures.
Technical Review on features
got this frame on the basis of its features and size, large display, plays video & sound. looks good
first off the
aesthetics: frame is very nice looking with the white border and would definitely not look out of place beside your other small frames on the table. it is hangable but then you need a way to hide the lovely power cable dangling behind
user interface: i will admit with the other reviewers that it is a little tricky and hard to get used to. only got a little grasp after a few days. so if you like creating slideshows from lots of different photos from different albums might be annoying (ie selecting photos involves alot of pressing and sliding). there are only 2 physical buttons, one for volume and the other for power. the others are highlighted on frame when you touch it.
photos: 2 ways of displaying the photos, either whole photo or fill screen. whole photo can show black bars as the resolution of the photo might not match the screen's but this is expected. fill screen zooms in on centre so if the action is at the side it can ruin the photo.
quality i would say is very good with clarity and colours coming out crisp. looking from big angles it started to get shady.
video: it claims to play MOV,MPEG and AVI. after much troubleshooting (trying different formats, different resolutions.....reading the manual) i discovered hidden on the Kodak website that it will only certifiably play recorded videos from a digital camera and not one from other sources such as your PC. so with regards quality the video can look a little washed out but does play AVIs i had recorded on my digital camera. when i wanted to add my homemade video (example join all the clips of the night) it was a little tricky. i used: AVI, M-JPEG codec, 640x480 resolution, 25fps, PCM stereo. this seemed ok
in conclusion this is a solid product and does what it says on the box but unfortunately the manual is useless and hence loses 2 stars from me
