Good but troublesome
I have had this printer since October. I am an artist so I purchased it both for it's scanning and printing features. It has been a good scanner and printer with excellent quality and speed. Also, although it is quite ink-consuming, it has individual cartridges and it has an option of colour blending to produce the missing colour by mixing in other colours so you can seriously prolong your ink life that way.
Good as it has been though it also has always had a problem with paper feeding. In my opinion that occurs because the paper holder is both short and shallow and the paper sticks out from the printer far too much, making the stack of paper unable to support its weight and eventually bending backwards or forwards. Note here that I always make sure the paper load is no more than 50 sheets (out of the 100 maximum).
So with the paper holder not keeping the paper straight and the feeding mechanism pulling the sheets of paper in really fast, the paper gets jammed very frequently and sometimes even shredded and stuck on the printer head.
Today one of the latter paper jams resulted in a fatal error on my printer and it seems very likely that I need to have it repaired.
Now it might be that my printer was slightly faulty from the start but it seems more likely that it might be a design fault.
Disappointed
I have previously owned an Epson C680 and C84. The C84 was the best. When my scanner went wrong I decided to buy an Epson DX7400 all in one. To save space I sold the C84 - what a mistake (I wondered why it sold for a good price - now I know why). The C84 was very economical to run. I have found that the DX7400 is not, even with compatible cartridges. The cartridges are a bit smaller than the C84's, but for some reason seem to eat them up much quicker. It took just one week to see off the first set of cartridges with moderate use on basic quality. I also use the printer over a network. Without warning I was unable to print from the other PCs - it was not a network problem & de-installing and re-installing the printer software on all the PCs eventually worked, but then the instructions came up in German on the print server! I contacted Epson - to be fair their response was good and they told me to deinstall and reinstall the printing software again - it worked. These problems have been time consuming, along with the time wasted frequently changing cartridges - I just want stress free printing! The printer does give very good results when you have ink & it's working well, though you don't get many pages for your money. There is an ink saving draft mode, but the printouts are very faint. At least the scanner seems to be very good and gives quality results. Shame about the printer.
Good easy to use all in one Printer
Very stylish and easy to install onto the computer. Works quietly on both the printing and scanning. Exactly what I wanted from a printer/scanner combo
