Manufacturer's Description

Now that you can buy movies from the iTunes Store and sync them to your iPod, the whole world is your theatre. With a 30GB iPod in hand, those movies fit comfortably next to TV shows, new iPod games, podcasts, audiobooks, photo albums, and, of course, an entire library of music — up to 7,500 songs, in fact. iPod is a pocket-size prodigy.

Watch this space

How much can your pocket hold? That’s up to you and your iPod. It holds up to 7,500 songs, up to 9,375 photos, and up to 37.5 hours of video — or any combination of each.(1) So you can browse movies on the iTunes Store, download the ones you want, then sync it to your iPod. Same goes for TV episodes, new iPod games, songs, best-selling audiobooks, and an entire universe of free podcasts. Go ahead. Fill ’er up.

Suit yourself

From cases to car kits, customise your iPod with accessories made especially for it. Pick up an iPod Universal Dock for more convenient syncing. Add an iPod Hi-Fi for room-filling sound. Sync photos on the go with an iPod Camera Connector. Attach a voice recorder to take audio notes.

Play all day
With all that music at your fingertips, you may never want to stop listening. Lucky thing your iPod plays audio for up to 14 hours.(2) Or, if you’d rather watch, you can feast your eyes on movies and TV shows for up to three-and-a-half hours.(3)

Pack light

It might be a miracle. Otherwise, it’s hard to explain exactly how 30GB of storage(4) can fit into an iPod that’s over 30% thinner than the previous fourth generation. However it happened, it means you can carry your entire music collection — plus a nice selection of video — absolutely everywhere you go. And a 60% brighter, more vibrant display gives your album art, photos, and video extra oomph.

Search and enjoy

Finding what you want to hear among 7,500 songs could be quite a chore — unless you have an iPod. A new interface lets you search your iPod using the patented Click Wheel. And if you’re a fan of live albums, classical works, or anything that sounds best when it’s continuous, iPod supports gapless playback that seamlessly transitions from one song to another.

1. Song capacity based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; actual capacity varies by content. Photo capacity based on iPod-viewable photos transferred from iTunes. Video capacity based on H.264 1.5-Mbps video at 640-by-480 resolution combined with 128-Kbps audio; actual capacity varies by content.
2. Up to 14 hours of battery life refers to 30GB model and music playback.
3. 3.5 hours of battery life refers to 30GB model and is based on H.264 1.5-Mbps video at 640-by-480 resolution combined with 128-Kbps audio. Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings. ipod - definately worth the money4
I recently bought a 30GB ipod, and I have to say it's a fantastic bit of kit. There are 2 bad points, which in my opinion are the only things that are bad about it:

    1. The headphones are crap (apart from being in hideous "mug me" white, they are rubbish quality. Invest in a better pair immediately - a medium priced pair will do, as the sound quality from the ipod is excellent)

    2. The battery life is'nt great (about 7 or 8 hours at a push if left on continuously)

Other than that, it is most definately worth the money, and I'm delighted with it. If you are wondering whether or not to get the 80GB, I have 203 full albums including artwork on my 30GB model, and it is not yet half full. Don't get an 80GB model if you have any less than about 500 albums, give or take.

Good fun to use, really versatile and convenient - great invention.

    Best yet5
I have had this iPod a few weeks and if it was possible I would give it in excess of 5 stars. It is very easy to use and I have now put most of my music and photos on it. Having tried various makes and types this by far the best. My age is 78 years and if I can find it easy to use then the younger generation should have no trouble. I agree that one should obtain screen covers (which are quite cheap and also the leather cover) Well done Apple.

Great, but invest in protective case!4
I am on the whole delighted with my 30 Gig ipod video having purchased it about a week ago. It is simple to use, has a good balance of features but not so many as to take away from the simple and easy to use design. I can carry all my music with me all the time and enjoy my photos anywhere. It syncs fast with itunes and charges to almost full in half an hour. Best of all you can pick a range of accessories both cheap from ebay and better quality ones from Amazon or Apple direct. No other MP3 player brand offers the choice of extras.

I would make two observations about the ipod. Firstly the ipods ability to pick up scratches is unbelievable. Having had the ipod only 12 hours I placed it in it's protective case (provided) and a small (really tiny) speck of grit caught between to screen and the case placed a nice big scratch across the screen. This is easily fixed with brasso (carefully), however still annoying if you compare it to most mobile phones which you are able to keep in the bottom of your bag or pocket for months without scratching. I would highly recommend buying a protective snap on cover when you order your ipod, and transfer it right from the box into the case.

Secondly, battery life... 20 hours? Maybe if you listen on low volume without pressing any buttons? 6-7 hours if you dim the screen. If you tend to fiddle with the ipod, not letting it just play the super bright screen will ware the battery down.

Four out of five Apple, sort the battery and the easy scratch plastic please?
