Fun B-movie romp
A prototype of an invincible laboratory bred soldier a Syngenor(actually a tall man in a rubber monster suit) escapes from its confines and kills a group of people including its creator Ethan Valentine(Lewis Arquette). Unfortunately for the scheming corporation that is marketing the Syngenor, Valentine's daughter survives the attack, and teams up with a reporter to get to the bottom of the deaths. Meanwhile, the Sygenor, which can reproduce asexually, starts to multiply.
This is a pretty standard B-movie romp, but made more entertaining by another enjoyable exercise in barmy villiany by David Gale who plays bonkers company exec Carter Brown with much glee, liquefying his mutinous employees with a death ray and a smirk on his face. Theres also a very good turn from Starr Andreeff who plays avenging angel Susan Valentine as a strong female action lead. Its these two performances that elevate the film slightly in my opinion. The bulk of the film comprises of running round corridors and either hiding from the syngenor or hunting them down, and various employees attempting to keep the unstable Brown under control. An enjoyable enough B-movie. 3 out of 5

SYNthesised GENetic ORganism
A multinational corporation (with the worst logo ever seen) which produces military defence technology, has created a synthesised genetic organism - Syngenor, a super-soldier designed for desert warfare, impervious, vicious and merciless, and with the ability to reproduce every 24 hours...
Weeks from completion, one of the team lets a prototype loose before it is perfected, and it annihilates several innocent employees, including it's creator, and thus begins a reign of fear and terror that endangers the lives of it's creators and those assigned to hunt it down.
This is all executed by using very cheap effects, except for one explosive sequence that probably cost quite a bit. However, it's not just the effects that are cheap. The actors are either inexperienced or the cheapest the casting people could find. Generally the performances are very one dimensional, with the exception of David Gale as the corporation's chief executive Carter Brown. Gale portrays a man getting increasingly paranoid about corporate backstabbers out to get his position in the company. His descent into partly drug induced madness is compelling viewing.
Other characters don't really have anything going for them and you aren't overly concerned when they get systematically killed off. The majority of their deaths do not contribute to the plot, and are there to show off the make-up department's gore effects.
The Syngenors, while not being particularly scary, have been well created. They are simply men in costumes, but the costumes themselves are detailed enough to make you believe in them. It helps their cause that they are in a lot of short, dimly lit shots.
Although the characters are nothing to write home about the story stays just strong enough to see you to the end. The ending will leave you shouting at the screen "Why didn't they remember that before now?", and it has left itself open for a sequel.
Far from an essential purchase, but a fun little film nonetheless. If you are a horror or sci-fi fan there are a lot worse films out there, I should know, I've seen most of them.
