Customer Reviews

Great music but be warned...3
First off, the singing in here is sublime. Some of the best you will ever hear. Reminiscent of Marva Whitney with a pop rather than a funk sensibility. Its a voice that will thrill and comfort, almost perfection. The down sides? Two really. Well, one and a half. The half is that these recordings are direct copies from the original 45s which gives them a charming and period piece authenticity but on the down side means that all too often the sound quality is pretty poor, in some passages distortion rather than music is the overwhelming aural sensation. But I know some people will be quite happy with that and will enjoy that kind of fidelity to the original sounds - which is why its only half a problem. But the thing that really IS a problem is the packaging. I have played this CD maybe three times and I have still not yet worked out the track listing. There are 21 tracks listed, and my CD players confirms that that number is correct, but beyond that simple agreement there is no relationship between the order of the songs on the albums and the order as listed on the sleeve. The record company should be applauded for issuing these songs on CD, but whoever put the packaging/sleeve art together should be taken out and shot. Horribly unprofessional and shoddy work.
