Synopsis
Mermaids are supposed to stay under the sea, but Ariel, a headstrong teenager, longs to be part of the magical world on land. When she falls in love with a human prince, Ariel strikes a bargain with the diabolical Sea Witch to win the prince's love. THE LITTLE MERMAID is a beautiful splash of art and music that revived the classic Disney tradition.

Set several years after the original, THE LITTLE MERMAID II finds Ariel and Prince Eric happily married with a daughter, Melody. In order to protect Melody from the Sea Witch, Morgana, they have not told her about her mermaid heritage. Melody is curious and ventures into the sea, where she meets new friends. But will she become a pawn in Morgana's quest to take control of the ocean from King Triton? Featuring all your favourite characters from the original movie, plus all-new songs.

**Never Ever Seen**2
Hi! I really love Disney movie specially Little Mermaid since when I was a little child up until now that I am already 24 so I bought a DVD for my niece expecting that the movie would catch her attention because she really love watching cartoons specially Disney but I was really surprise when I saw her playing while the movie runs... I asked her if she didn't like the movie and guess what she has told me. She is not interested because she can't understand the story anymore and that Little Mermaid II is not as colorful as the first one... I tried to rewind it back and see the whole story again and I think I would have to agree with her because the story is good for adults and the colors are dull. I really love Disney but this is the first time I have ever seen my niece lost her focus while watching a Disney movie... If this would help can you please make sure that if there will be a Little Mermaid III make sure that it would sound and like a Disney movie... thanks!!

fantastic!5
Ive loved the little mermaid sinse before I could walk, and I still do, fantastic fun my children will grow up with this as well

5 stars for the original film! minus 4 for the degrading follow up!1
don't get me wrong, i absolutely love the little mermaid, that is the original Disney film that is disc one of this set. and the anime version of 78 also as it remains true to the story, but I'm not reviewing that one so, the little mermaid. excellent story, fantastic songs, great character development, "real" baddie, warm character's, fabulous animation, it has it all! what more can i say? i loved it as a child, and i love now at 24!

however the second one just totally murdered the magic that was the little mermaid, curious to find out what happened next i bought the box set, but halfway through part 2 i had to walk out of the room! now it's OK for the kids, as they won't pick up on the second-rate TV animation, which lacks texture, depth of color and warmth, it is rather like a TV production worthy of the cartoon network! at times Ariel's head seemed shrunken and out of proportion and looked rather ugly at times, Eric just wasn't Eric, he was more like 'Jim Dear' from 'Lady and the tramp', the little girl, melody was the best character, she looked how you'd imagine, was drawn the best and as the story focused on her, showed the best character development, then again she didn't have to be compared to the previous movie as the others did. the songs were not catchy or memorable for me at all and were nothing on the first film's song's, the story seemed a little rushed, Ariel was a bit 'boring' guess she is a mom now and the focus is on her daughter, i just missed the old Ariel!
onto the baddie. Ursula's sister that has appeared from 'no-where!' but even if she had been mentioned in the first film it still wouldn't have worked for this film is missing the atmosphere that drew you into the first film anyway, she was not intimidating or scary as her sister was, there was no lightning, thunder and storms, she was just like a regular aunt!

i guess this is a straight to video/DVD release and it was made 15 years later or more so getting the same voices, etc would have been quite hard! so for that it's OK, kids won't know the difference, (although i must admit my two sat all the way through the first one and were even trying to sing the songs! mesmerized by the whole magic that is the little mermaid, but for the second they weren't so transfixed, didn't show no interest in the songs and seemed a little bored 3 thirds in) if like me, you loved the first and want to know what happened next I'd avoid this film, (part 2) as it will only shatter your dreams! I'm just really disappointed to find that one of my all time favorite characters from childhood grew up to be a boring mum living a boring life in a palace, no fun and excitement like her day out with Eric in the first film? just tight shoes and corsette's for her! Eric is no longer Charming or Exciting, (I'd rather be a fish than be with this guy!) the only pleasure was seeing their little girl melody who i found quite charming, but not charming enough to save this poor excuse for a sequel.

sorry guys!

if on the other hand you have not seen the little mermaid or would like a lighter film for the younger ones, then maybe, just maybe it'll be OK, but i really wish i had just bought the first movie alone, saved my money and just imagined the rest of the story, cause it would have been better than this!
