Synopsis
Brenda Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick, THE WOODSMAN, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY) arrives from Atlanta to head up the LAPD's Priority Homicide Division, a unit that specialises in sensitive, high-profile criminal cases. Almost immediately, her mix of brassy toughness and Southern sass begins to rub the mostly male policemen the wrong way. They resent this eccentric, folksy, and occasionally neurotic woman running the show. But when it comes to her CIA-trained interrogation skills, they're forced to admit that she's a pro's pro, a psychological surgeon who gets inside the subjects' minds and draws out their darkest secrets and confessions. In the explosive first series, Johnson and her team tackle the rape and murder of a politician's daughter, an escalating gangland war, the assassination of an Iranian businessman, and other dangerous crimes. Through all this, Johnson deals with her troubled past, her problematic romances, and even betrayal by members of her own team. Riveting police drama from the team behind NIP TUCK.

Something different4
Kira Sedgwick is The Closer, newly imported from Atlanta as Deputy Chief in LA's prestigious new murder squad: so far, so seen-it-before. One difference is Sedgwick herself, sassy Southerner in a male department, resented and disliked, hopelessly sloppy and disorganised in her private life, trailing romantic failures in her past career, a faded beauty past her best and not bothering to conceal it but sure of herself in the job and abrasively not concealing that either. Definitely not one of those impossibly young, glamorous and well-groomed females we are used to in the standard cop spin-offs. A second difference is the supporting cast, all credible in their roles - more Law and Order than CSI - and mercifully not one of those irritating white college jocks in sight. A third difference is the taut and realistic script, and a fourth, most important of all, down-to-earth believable cases, again true to the tradition of the original Law and Order series, and a relief from the grotesqueries and mad excesses which have come to dominate CSI and it's spinoffs, or L&O SVU and L&O CI. The Closer looks like being a winner.

Brilliant show!!!5
I cannot agree with the negative comments made by some of the reviewers here. This show is brilliant, as is Kyra (wife of Kevin Bacon). I also love Boston Legal and Criminal Minds, CSI and many other fantastic US imports. The writing IS good, and the acting IS good and the characters ARE believable and we, in my family, LOVE IT. WATCH IT - and PERLEEZE, DO NOT CLOSE YOUR EYES!! Thank you, thank you so murch. (quote Brenda Lee)

Fantastic all the way - recommend to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!5
I don't very often take the time to write reviews but felt I just had to on this series. It is suprisingly amazing and I recommend everyone giving it a go. The main character played by Kyra Sedgwick is quirky, funny believable and 100% entertaining all the way. The supporting cast are also brilliant and the series is unique enough in its writing and characters that you do not compare it to all the other US 'CSI' type programmes. Hope that there will be another series. Enjoy A*****
