Manufacturer's Description
The HD 280 PRO are closed-back, circumaural headphones designed for professional monitoring applications. Although suitable for a very wide range of applications, the exceptional 32 dB attenuation of external noise makes the HD 280 PRO particularly useful for use in a high-noise environment.

Superb!
These headphones are primarily geared for studio work - the bass is tight and fast, midband rich, and treble very clear and precise. And - they'll go REALLY loud.
The sound is as good as the recording (in other words, IF the recording is good, the sound will amaze you - but the headphones will not mask any imperfections of the recording!).
I got them only yesterday, so can't comment on the durability - but they seem very solid - go ahead, drop them on the floor! I can say, however, that I found them comfortable even after several hours of non-stop listening. They also block the unwanted noise (including my noisy colleagues at work) very effectively.
In short, a great buy - I am sure there are lighter and cheaper headphones out there, but I wouldn't bother - in my (rather extensive experience), this is a superb buy.
Not for the faint hearted
I have had these for about 3 months and have clocked about 300 hours of use. they are great when you get them out of the box and they just get better as they run in.
The sound is very finely balanced, the bass is not over done but drops very low, you will hear each string on that double bass. The mids have fantastic punch and the treble will make your ears tingle.
The closed back, ear muff pads and vice like grip mean the background noise just melts away, so you don't have to max out your player! Plug them in to a dedicated headphone amp for the best sound.
Just be mindful of the volume, these will really make your ears ring if not careful.
And yes, you will look silly in public.
The Best Heahphones You can buy.
I just wanted to say that whoever is in doubt rest assured these headphones will not let you down. I made a wrong decision and went and bought the HD 555 headphones(as all the reviews were good). Dont get me wrong they were good but what really let them down was the sound leaking i mean you could hear them upstairs. But the sound was great, That was until i went and bought these(as i could not take the sound leaking anymore).
Now when i first put them on i was speachless i thought there was no way as the HD 555 were more expensive. But when i put the HD 555 back on after a week or so it felt like they were not as clear and crisp as the HD 280pro were.
So i am just writing this to tell you Please dont make the mistake i made and get these instead of the HD 555's. These Heaphones are really that good and they sound great with an Ipod too.
