Once again a hip hop triumph
Following Aim's masterpieces Cold Water Music & Hinterland, this is another must have for all hip hop and experimental hip hop fans. Aim's immense skills with turntablist music production is one to match Dj Shadow - which we all know was so well shown with his track Cold Water Music on the album of the same name, and Good Disease on Hinterland. Unfortunately I do not know the names of the tracks as the album is unreleased in the UK, however I can say that if you felt dissappointed with Hinterland after Cold Water Music, Aim has really reached redemption with this album release. From fans of Force & Ain't Got Time To Waste, to Good Disease & Cold Water Music, i recommend this album to you. With a hint of a Herbaliser sound in one of the tracks, all hip hoppers and turntablists will love it.
Funky beats with a trademark Aim feel
Hinterland. Not an amazing follow up to the masterpiece album that calls itself Cold Water Music. So in light of that I was slightly dubious as to whether I should buy this compilation of Aims favourite tunes or not-especially as I read that Andy Turner aka Aim was actually a bit of an indie fan. I'm glad I did though-I'm not disappointed in the slightest, on the contrary in fact-this album has become one of the best in my collection, it cleverly suits any mood.
The album opens with a mellow wintery tune and what follows is a collection of funky tunes with subtle but addictive beats. There is a distinctive Aim feel to the whole album. The only complaint I have is that he drops his funky as hell 'Pharcyde' and then follows it with a bit of a bland tune, maybe that's a bit harsh on the track-it's a great end to the album, but a bit of an anticlimax after a great remix of Cold Water Music and Pharcyde. But that's my only gripe and believe me-I can be quite critical ; )
You are obviously a fan of good music as you are on this page so my advice to you is make this the next album you buy. Funky but almost chilled at the same time. All the tracks are very different yet similar-if that makes sense, you'll know what I mean when you hear it-and they all flow together so, so well. Sir Turner's come through again. The man's a genius, but I don't need to tell you that.
Not that special
Aim's "Cold water music" is one of my favourite CDs so I thought I'd invest in this album of some of their favourite tracks and was pretty disapointed. Apart from 2/3 tracks most of the rest is uninspiring and monotonous even after a few listens.
