Customer Reviews
Surprisingly Amazing
I don't normally write reviews. I just read them.
But for some reason the magic of this CD urges me to pencil a few lines.
Crossing Borders is an album made by a Russian folk & blue grass band Kukuruza, and boy do they rock...
Most songs are sung in Russian, but don't let that deter you ; Irina Surina, the lead female vocalist has the voice of an angel. She could well be the Russian Sandy Denny.
Add to this amazing vocal quality, impressive acoustic bass, fiddles, clarinets, mandalins, piano's and it's absolutely a full house.
Anyone into folk, folk rock-n-roll or blue grass can't be disappointed with this album ; there is also a nice mixture of upbeat tunes, gallopping, ballads as well as the plain odd.
Oddly, there are two songs on here, sung in english and I always skip these. But I give it still 5 stars because the 12 remaining russian performances are in a league of its own.
