John Barrowman reads this thrilling story of murder, mutilation and monsters. Thick black clouds are blotting out the skies over Cardiff. As twenty-four inches of rain fall in twenty-four hours, the city centre's drainage system collapses. The capital's homeless are being murdered, their mutilated bodies left lying in the soaked streets around the Blaidd Drwg nuclear facility. Tracked down by Torchwood, the killer calmly drops eight storeys to his death. But the killings don't stop. Their investigations lead Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Toshiko Sato to a monster in a bathroom, a mystery at an army base, and a hunt for stolen nuclear fuel rods. Meanwhile, Owen Harper goes missing from the Hub, when a game in Second Reality leads him to an old girlfriend...Something is coming, forcing its way through the Rift, straight into Cardiff Bay. Read by John Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack Harkness, this gripping adventure features Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato and Ianto Jones, as played by Eve Myles, Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori and Gareth David-Lloyd in the hit seriesfrom BBC Television. It contains adult themes and language.

Customer Reviews
It was pretty good
As a guy that adores audio-dramas and a fan of Torchwood, I was excited to buy the Torchwood audiobooks and honestly... it was pretty good. It's not an audio-drama like those on BBC Radio 4, it's exactly what it says on the tin, or in this case, the CD case - Torchwood: Another Life (Audiobook) read by John Barrowman.
In my opinion, these audio serials would be far better if read by the entire cast with the sound effects like that of audio-dramas. Other than that, it's pretty good.
Just what the Doctor would order!!!!
If you're a fan then I recommend this CD. Barrowman for my mind does a fine job of his telling on this abridged version of the book. Sure as previous reviewers say it's Torchwood therefore predictable in plot but what do they expect East Enders?? What you see is what you get a typical Torchwood, aliens thru' the rift in Cardiff adventure. And just what the Doctor (!) would order! Or rather that should be what you hear is what you get. Barrowman does a great job at reading (It is a talking book for goodness sake previous reviewer! Full cast indeed!) And is great for people like me that enjoy a good story, and a well told Torchwood one but haven't got time to read the book! It's a fine sit down /relax and imagine you're there type tale and well it's great entertainment!! It's not war and Peace, it's not Tolstoy but Torchwood/Barrowman/entertainment and for around seven quid and that's not all bad is it??
Reasonable, but predictable in places
This audio features John Barrowman reading from the book.
The plot is typical Torchwood fare, and bumps along quite nicely, with the romantic focus very much on Owen. Unfortunately it does suffer a bit from predictability and you can pretty much figure out the story and the eventual ending very early on. Nevertheless it is entertaining, and well written.
Generally Barrowmans reading is ok, but disappointing in that he hasn't given much of a differentiation to the other characters voices- he reads both Gwen and Owen in the same tone, for example. As a result, you don't really get the feel of their characters here.
Generally I'd recommend it to people who are definitely fans of the series, who will enjoy it, as I did. People who can take-or-leave the TV program will probably want to look elsewhere - perhaps the Big Finish Dr Who audios for example.
