Latest Doctor who companion chronicle. These are a range of talking books featuring an actor who played a companion to the doctor on the tv show returning to the role to read an all new story featuring them. They voice all other characters as well save one who is voiced by a guest actor.

As uaual the story runs for two episodes of roughly thirty minutes each and is complete on one disc with a trailer for the next in the range at the beginning and a very entertaining interview with cast and crew taking up the last three tracks for roughly thirteen minutes.

This one sees mark strickson reprising the role of turlough, who he played opposite peter davison's doctor back in the 1980's. Mark Strickson now lives and works in new zealand and thus isn't available to do big finish stories very often, so this is a welcome return for him.

The story begins with turlough having disobeyed the doctor and taken a spaceship so that he can go and open up a seal that keeps alien trapped in a micro universe from getting out. The seal was likened to a ringpull by tegan. Hence the title. But Turlough has an added problem in the presence of huxley, an alien from a race who call themselves narrators. They attach themselves to people and record their life. whether the person likes it or not.

Dialogue between turlough and huxley fills us in on how turlough and the doctor and tegan go into this universe in the first place. Thus the narrative structure is not conventional but it's very easy to get used to. and the interaction between turlough and his narrator is so well written and acted it's a captivating listen that makes the first part fly by.

Come part two the script remembers how crafty turlough can be, and resolves things in a very clever manner that plays some neat tricks with the nature of storytelling and standard doctor who plots. And then there's still time for one final development.

Mark Strickson does great impressions of the fifth doctor and tegan, and as a whole the combination of clever writing and excellent acting makes this a really great release and I highly recommend it
